Jacob’s Creek has been named the number one winery in the world for 2008 based on the wines receiving 219 awards at major shows around the world in 2007/08.
In the survey by the World Association of Wine Writers and Journalists (WAWWJ)*, Jacob’s Creek took out the top award for 2008 ahead of United States wineries V.Sattui and Gallo, ranked two and three respectively.
Jacob’s Creek wines picked up gold medals at prestigious shows such as Challenge International du Vin (France), the Selections Mondiale (Canada), and the San Francisco International Wine Challenge.
Currently, Jacob’s Creek is ranked the third best winery in the world for 2009 as of 5 June 2009, having won 188 awards. The rankings are updated as major shows results are analysed by WAWWJ.
The world ranking results go further to support the quality of Jacob’s Creek wines, with their flagship wine 2001 Jacob’s Creek Johann Shiraz Cabernet ranked fifth wine in the world for 2008 after winning awards at 11 major shows, including Gold Best in Class at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2007 (UK).
Jacob’s Creek Chief Winemaker, Bernard Hickin, is delighted with the results from 2008 and 2009, so far. “These results are testament to the quality of Jacob’s Creek wines. Being named number one winery in the world after being judged alongside global wineries is a great endorsement as to what’s in the glass.”
