Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has opened a Courtyard hotel in Chennai, India, under a management agreement with Palm Grove Beach Hotels Pvt. Ltd. The 238-room Courtyard by Marriott Chennai is the first Courtyard by Marriott property to open in the country.
Courtyard by Marriott hotels are aimed at business and leisure travelers who seek accommodations offering consistent quality. Its spacious guest rooms are generally larger than the accommodations offered by other hotels in its segment and feature a comfortable sitting area, large work desk, and two telephones with data ports. Public space reflects Courtyard’s casual ambience that is designed to make guests feel comfortable and welcomed.

The Courtyard by Marriott Chennai is conveniently located near the Chennai Trade Center. Nearby attractions include Fort St. George and Marina Beach. The general manager of the 238-room Courtyard by Marriott Chennai is Rajat Chatterjee. Room rates at the hotel range from $150-$225 USD, plus tax.
For dining and entertainment, the Courtyard by Marriott Chennai offers several options including the Indian cuisine of Rhapsody, an all-day dining restaurant, and Muffin Tree Deli featuring a variety of fresh baked breads, cakes and pastries. Other amenities include a full-service business center, fitness center, high-speed Internet access and complimentary valet parking. For social events and small meetings, the Courtyard by Marriott Chennai has seven rooms offering nearly 300 meters of meeting space. Wireless LAN access is available in all function space.
Additional Courtyard hotels are expected to open later this year in Paris, France and Manakau City, New Zealand. In 2007, a Courtyard by Marriott hotel will open in Bangkok, Thailand.
Introduced in 1983 in Atlanta, Ga., Courtyard by Marriott now ranks as the 13th largest lodging chain in the world, represented by nearly 700 hotels in 42 states in the United States and located in 22 countries and territories world-wide. As Marriott’s fastest-growing brand, two of every five Courtyards in the next three years will be located outside the continental United States.
