Sofitel ambassadors on the move (China)

It gives us great pleasure to announce the appointment of Bertrand Courtois, as the new General Manager for Sofitel Wanda Chengdu, effective June 8th, 2009, and Fredrik Genberg as the new General Manager for Sofitel Wanda Harbin, effective July 2nd, 2009.

New GM appointment for Sofitel Wanda Chengdu - Mr. Bertrand Courtois

Bertrand holds a Master degree from Paris IV Sorbonne University. He started his career with Accor as Cost Controller at Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe, which was followed by positions as Assistant Front Office Manager and Front Office Manager.

In 2000, he moved to Vietnam, where he occupied various Rooms positions at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza. After 3 years in Vietnam, he relocated to China, where he became Executive Assistant Manager for Sofitel Shanghai Hyland.

Bertrand’s first position as General Manager was at Sofitel Trilec Nanchang Hotel. Accor eventually pulled out of this agreement.

His last posting was General Manager Sofitel Wanda Harbin, where he successfully opened the hotel. This hotel offers the latest trends on design in Harbin with new standards in combining classic French hospitality with Chinese culture.

Bertrand is replacing Patrick McDermott in Chengdu, who has decided to leave for personal reasons.

New GM appointment for Sofitel Wanda Harbin – Mr. Fredrik Genberg

Fredrik successfully obtained a Bachelor degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management from Michigan State University, United States. He started his career with various hotel positions in Food and Beverage and the Rooms Division in the United States and Sweden. In 1988 he first came to Asia and worked for Hyatt International in Macau, Hong Kong and Xian. This was followed by an assignment as Front Office Manager at The Peninsula Palace Hotel, Beijing.

After 5 years in China, he relocated to Indonesia, where he was Rooms Division Manager for Hotel Melia Bali. He advanced his career and became Director of Rooms of the Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. In 1995 he became Resident Manager & Executive Assistant Manager – Rooms at The Dynasty Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, where he worked for 3 years.

Fredrik joined Guoman International Hotels in Kuala Lumpur as General Manager and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of the Hong Leong Group after 2 years.

His last posting was General Manager at the Canton Club, Guangzhou, which features Guangzhou’s finest dining, meeting, spa and recreational facilities.

Fredrik is replacing Bertrand Courtois, who was appointed as General Manager for Sofitel Wanda Chengdu.
