Motorcity Casino Hotel Announces Renowned Chef Don Yamauchi as Executive Chef (United States)

Don Yamauchi, one of the country's rising culinary stars, brings his unique artistry to MotorCity Casino Hotel. In his new role, Chef Yamauchi will oversee all of the property's food outlets including AAA Four Diamond Award winner, Iridescence, The Assembly Line Buffet, MotorCity Pit Stop, Flames and The Signature Lounge along with catering and special events.

"Chef Don is the perfect choice to lead our culinary team," said Lucio Arancibia, vice president of food & beverage. "Aside from his extensive experience, highly regarded reputation and proven leadership ability, Chef Yamauchi is intimately familiar with this market and enjoys interacting with guests."

Yamauchi welcomed the opportunity to stay in Detroit. "I am very comfortable in this area. This is one of the friendliest places I have ever lived and I think I have a very good idea of the kinds of food and value that is appreciated by our guests."

Chef Yamauchi will join a team of culinary artists who are already well respected in the industry. "I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with such an accomplished team of culinary professionals," said Chef Yamauchi. "I fully understand that my success will be dictated by the success of our team. One of the factors that was crucial in my decision to take this position, was the caliber of people I would be working with."

Yamauchi, a native Chicagoan has been honored as a James Beard Society's Rising Chefs in America, and is recipient of the Food and Wine magazine's Top 10 New Chefs in America award. Prior to joining the MotorCity Casino Hotel culinary team, he held executive chef positions at Forte', Saltwater, Bourbon Steak and Tribute. He has also been an important factor in the success of several highly regarded Midwest restaurants including Carols and Gordon, both four-star dining establishments.

Additionally, Chef Don was the co-owner and executive chef for the legendary Le Francais in Wheeling, IL. Yamauchi is a graduate of the Culinary School of Kendall College in Evanston.
