Referred to as the definitive guide to the hottest new hotels in the world, the Conde Nast Hot List for 2009 has selected the recently opened Six Senses Destination Spa Phuket as the only complete destination spa to make The List. The Hot List is truly global, with properties from a remote African lodge to an urban oasis in Beverly Hills, a resort in Abu Dhabi and a sexy newcomer in Miami... and the Six Senses Destination Spa just five minutes off the coast of Phuket on the tiny island of Naka.
Conde Nast Traveller wrote, “The popular Six Senses group's first destination spa weaves the same brand of rustic-chic magic it perfected at Soneva Fushi in the Maldives. It has also managed to present an eco-conscious front without losing an ounce of flair: there's edible landscaping (the scent of lemongrass permeates the air), an organic kitchen garden and even a mushroom hut where three varieties flourish. As at the Maldives hotel, you're welcome to do the 'no shoes, no news' thing: digging your toes into the powder-fine sand as you tuck into a mango salad can be very liberating. The scrumptious cuisine is mostly raw and entirely vegetable or fish-based, so expect local ceviche, tandoor vegetable and paneer skewers and chilled anise spiced-carrot pudding. And you shouldn't worry about overindulging: there is a team of fitness instructors, nutritionists and wellness consultants to whip you into shape, and activities such as Thai boxing, yoga, Pilates and kinesis will keep your metabolic rate high. Retreats range from the three-night Silent Mind programme to the 21-night Body Confidence boot camp”.
The 7th Sense, which is the spa heart of the property, features four interrelated architectural concepts that will delight the eye as guests set about achieving their goals. The themes are Chinese, Indonesian, Indian and of course Thai, covering a footprint of more than 5,000 square metres.
Accommodations are all private pool villas, surrounded with edible landscaping. Mostly one bedroom, there is also a three-bedroom Retreat and cluster of villas called The Enclave, which is ideal for a group of friends or even members of the Board looking to focus on wellness mixed with a little executive decision-making.
