World’s Leading Wine & Spirits Exhibition Already Sold Out
Vinexpo, the world’s leading international wine and spirits exhibition is once again fully booked three months before opening. Professionals in the industry are unanimous in their belief that in difficult times, Vinexpo represents an unrivalled forum to explore and develop new business opportunities around the world.
Scheduled to be held in Bordeaux, France from June 21st to 25th this year, Vinexpo will once again symbolise the energy and confidence of an industry that is resolute in its ambition and vision to overcome the challenge of the global crisis.
Vinexpo exhibitors are expected to be there in force with some 2,400 exhibitors from 45 countries already signed up for stands. Italy, France and Spain, which represent 52.5% of world production and exports of more than 5.6 billion bottles of still light wine, will again be widely represented at Vinexpo 2009 with national pavilions as well as world famous companies such as Luigi Cecchi & Figli, Casa Vinicola Zonin, Gonzalez-Byass, not to mention Hugel & Fils, Georges Duboeuf, Champagne Louis Roederer and Castel Frères.
Chile and Argentina will occupy the same floor area as in 2007, while Mexican, Portuguese and South African companies are displaying special vitality by increasing their space by 4.4%, 8% and 22% respectively.
A new record has been made amongst the national and regional pavilions: a total of 20 production areas will group small companies together that will be exhibiting their wines and spirits. Amongst these, four new country pavilions will include Sweden, Byelorussia, Madagascar and Brazil.
Among the world’s leading industry players exhibiting at Vinexpo 2009 will be: Gruppo Italiano Vini (Italy); Marco Real, Domecq Wines España (Spain); Kendall-Jackson and Heaven Hill Distilleries (USA); Skalli Family Wines, Georges Duboeuf, Rémy-Cointreau, Champagne Bollinger, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (France); Sogrape and Symington Family Estates (Portugal); Henkell & Co. Sektkellerei (Germany); Concha y Toro and Santa Rita (Chile); Group Hess (Switzerland); Penaflor (Argentina); Distell Ltd. (South Africa); De Bortoli Wines (Australia), etc.
The exhibition will occupy a total floor area of 90,000 sq. m including the exhibition halls, gardens, Club du Lac, restaurants, conference and tasting rooms and all the supporting services.
Club du Lac
This year’s prestigious ‘Club du Lac’ at Vinexpo will showcase the wines of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Concha y Toro, Champagne Deutz, Les Grands Chais de France, Lanson International, CVBG Dourthe Kressmann and Champagne Louis Roederer. These seven important companies clearly represent considerable business influence, with a total of 1.18 billion bottles sold each year in more than 150 countries and with sales turnover of €1.66 billion.
The setting of the Club du Lac one of the most sought-after attractions of the exhibition, has been especially designed by Vinexpo to fittingly represent the qualities of these esteemed brands, namely: elegance, prestige and consequence.
Marketers by Vinexpo
Wine and spirits marketing will again be on show in the Convention Centre with ‘Marketers by Vinexpo’. Occupying an area of over 800 sq. m of stands, around 40 exhibitors from 8 countries will display innovative equipment and solutions for marketing wine and spirits to consumers.
Marketers by Vinexpo is an additional focus of interest for visitors as well as for marketing and sales managers. The following names feature amongst the companies specialising in packaging, in equipment for cafés, hotels and restaurants or retailers, in services or marketing: Detesk (Czech Republic), Ravi Solution (Canada), Orcel & Romieu – Drop Stop (France), as well as Cipsa (Spain).
ASI at Vinexpo 2009
This year, Vinexpo will accommodate the General Assembly of the International Sommellerie Association (ASI). More than 120 sommeliers from all over the world will represent the 44 member countries of ASI on Saturday June 20th at the Convention Centre.
During Vinexpo on Sunday June 21st, ASI will present to the media and professionals, a preview of the next ASI Contest of the World’s Best Sommelier to be held in Chile in 2010. The best sommeliers in the world, Andreas Larson (2007), Olivier Poussier (2000), Philippe Faure-Brac (1992) and Serge Dubs (1989), who are all members of the ASI board, as well as ASI President Kazuyoshi Kogai, will be among the celebrities expected.
“We have been in touch with ASI for several months, discussing how Vinexpo can be a partner in these events, which further emphasizes the professional and international dimensions of the exhibition,” points out Robert Beynat, Chief Executive of Vinexpo.
Conferences and Tastings Provide Regular Highlights
Throughout the exhibition, continuous conferences and tastings will take place in the Convention Centre and in Exhibition Halls 2 and 3.
The full programme of events will be announced at the end of April, but exhibitors and visitors can expect highlights such as “The future of the American market” by Wine Business Council, “Sommellerie and competitions – the new challenges of the sommelier’s profession by the Best Sommeliers in the World” by ASI and Vinexpo. Also “Supply marketing or demand marketing – what stage is the wine industry at?” by the French business school, Inseec.
Another highlight will be the Drinks Business and the Masters of Wines announcement of the recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award at a commemorative lunch. The 2007 award went to Piero Antinori.
Vinexpo will also be focusing a large share of the limelight on various high profile wine tastings, including “Masseto – the story of Merlot in Italy”, “The 6th Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Cup and The Lussac Saint-Emilion and Puisseguin Saint-Emilion Appellations Cup”, “A portrait of Burgundy – Burgundy wines tell you their stories”, “Organic wine”, “Dream or reality at JeanJean’s?”, “The 2008 vintage of Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux”, etc.
