The Marmara Hotels & Residences will be participating in Earth Hour 2009 by turning off their lights to vote for the earth and against global warming. They are also asking guests at all their hotels — The Marmara Istanbul, The Marmara Pera, The Marmara Sisli, The Marmara Antalya, The Marmara Bodrum and their US property, The Marmara Manhattan — to participate in this year’s event which takes place on March 28 from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. local time.
According to Arzu Tuna, Director of Sales and Marketing for the hotel group, “This is a great opportunity to increase awareness in our staff and guests of how our daily actions contribute to climate change. We always strive to follow a green philosophy and currently have light conservation, water conservation and recycling systems in place at all the Marmara Hotels & Residences’ properties and Earth Hour is another way to demonstrate our on-going commitment to reduce our carbon footprint."
Earth Hour is an annual international event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to ‘vote’ for the earth and to raise awareness towards the need to take action on global warming. Currently 80 countries and 750 cities will be participating in Earth Hour 2009, with a goal of 1 billion votes.
