AQUA Cancun Recognized as "Editor's Pick" in TravelAge West Magazine's 2009 WAVE Awards

After a multi-million dollar renovation and redesign following 2005's Hurricane Wilma, AQUA Cancun reopened its doors in late 2007 with much more than a fresh coat of paint. The fully renewed AQUA Cancun now boasts a new sense of purpose, far beyond that of providing clear, turquoise waters and white sand beaches. The new lifestyle resort promises to heighten the guest experience by touching each of the five senses with unique design elements such as sensuous aromatherapy menus, savory international cuisine, a world fusion spa and fitness center, an in-house DJ and, of course, stunning panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, creating a total-sensory experience unlike any other.

It should come as no surprise then that AQUA Cancun has been honored with an "Editor's Pick" for "Best New Property and Major Renovation in Mexico" as a part of TravelAge West magazine's 2009 Western Agents Vote of Excellence (WAVE) Awards. "Editor's Pick" recipients such as AQUA Cancun are selected after a careful review by the TravelAge West editorial staff, whose review methods include product analysis, on-site visits, travel agent surveys and online research.

The reconstruction following Hurricane Wilma could have posed a lofty task for AQUA but was instead used as an opportunity to transition the hotel from the luxury hotel category to the luxury lifestyle category. The resort now features all-new accommodations, including 335 luxury guest rooms and 36 suites; restaurants by celebrity chefs Michelle Bernstein and Franco Madalozzo; and the region's most extensive wine and spirits selection, including more than 200 bottles of wine and 60 tequilas and mezcals, hand-selected by self-proclaimed "wine geek" Steve Olson. Guests can also choose from eight swimming pools, each featuring its own unique water temperature, and treatments from a an extensive list of multi-sensory spa services, hand-selected from all over the world.

"This award publicly recognizes our rebirth and renewal, two key concepts embraced by the hotel and our staff," notes Hotel Director Francisco Gutierrez. "This is the essence of AQUA: rejuvenation from the inside out, which is what we want our property to exude and what we want our guests to bring home with them."
