Starwood to Achieve 1,000th Opening this Year

Starwood will achieve a landmark 1,000th hotel opening this year, as part of its plan to open 100 hotels in 2009. Focused on managing the right properties in the right places with the right partners, the company remains on track to expand its portfolio by more than 40 percent over the next five years. In the pipeline are more than 400 hotels, 60 percent of which are outside the US.

W Hotels will triple its portfolio in the next three years, bringing its iconic whatever/whenever service to 13 locations. Sheraton will be expanding its portfolio by 18, while the Westin brand will add another 11 hotels. Aloft Hotels will double from its current 17, and Starwood’s green trailblazer, Element, will be opening five more hotels in the US. Four Points by Sheraton is geared up for nearly 30 openings across the world, including its first new prototype, slated for San Antonio. St. Regis is stamping its mark with five new properties this year, while the Luxury Collection is looking at 10 more openings. Le Meridien has nearly 20 hotels in development and four openings planned this year in markets worldwide.
