Renovated Lobby Multi-Tasks for Business and Pleasure

Just in time to wine and dine your sweetheart for Valentine's Day, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center has officially opened two exciting new dining destinations -- forty-two degrees north and Volt. North America's tallest hotel completely transformed its former restaurant, bar and main lobby to create contemporary new concepts for dining, social business and guest services.

A classic yet innovative Michigan-inspired menu, created by Executive Chef Franz Josef Zimmer, is featured at forty-two degrees north, the Detroit Marriott's new restaurant. Highlights on the dinner menu include cedar smoked maple glazed salmon, butternut squash ravioli, and naturally raised fillet of beef with a blueberry demi-glace and mushroom ragout. Early risers can feast on Steak and Eggs or Crunchy Grilled French Toast. An a-typical Lunch Buffet offers different selections daily and includes fresh soups, salads, pastas, chef-crafted sandwiches and a dessert bar. Two deliciously intriguing options are Sloppy Joes with radicchio and banana peppers on brioche, and macaroni and cheese with Dearborn Ham.

The creative local cuisine is complimented by a stylishly urban setting with sleek interior decor elements and spectacular riverfront views. Located in the space occupied by the hotel's previous restaurant, RiverCafe, forty-two degrees north offers outdoor seating, weather permitting. Additionally, private dining and boardrooms will be available for special functions when construction of these areas is completed this winter.

Volt
Volt is an exciting new lounge that was constructed within the hotel's main lobby, and it is already on its way to becoming one of Detroit's hottest spots to do business and socialize. Volt harnesses the new current in contemporary dining with a "5/10/20 Menu" based on how much time one has to eat. Guests can select from items that are available in 5 minutes (light snacks), 10 minutes (salads and sandwiches) and 20 minutes (heartier fare). An extensive menu of wines by the glass, regionally-brewed beers, and signature cocktails is also available. Specialty beverages include Latitude American Pale Ale, crafted locally by the King Brewing Company, in Pontiac, MI, and 42 Below Vodka, from New Zealand, a gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Patrons seated at Volt's stunning 70-foot long bar enjoy expansive views of the Detroit River and city skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows. The RiverBar, the hotel's former bar, is now being remodeled into new private meeting and dining space.

New Lobby Concept

"m.i. greatroom," the hotel's new main lobby area, is a concept recently developed by Marriott. The 4,000 square-foot space features a striking ultra- modern decor and multi-tasks as an area for guest check-in, relaxation and social interaction. In the new lobby, guests have access to two touch-screen computers with printers, free wireless Internet access, multiple high- definition flat screen TVs, and of course, Volt. Individual seating areas designed for work as well as relaxation "pods" are strategically located throughout.

"The complete overhaul of the hotel's restaurant, bar and lobby areas has been a large but very exciting undertaking as we strive to stay competitive and better serve our guests," said Bob Farmery, Area General Manager, Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. "We've received an avalanche of positive feedback already, and as the city's landmark hotel it's vital that we make necessary improvements as part of our commitment to Detroit's prosperous future."

Hotel Background
As Detroit's largest convention hotel, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center has hosted many prestigious events drawing visitors and news media from around the world. The hotel was the official host hotel for Super Bowl XL, the 2006 World Series and numerous other international events.

The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is owned by General Motors Corporation and managed by Marriott International. The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is located on the riverfront in the heart of downtown Detroit. The hotel's 1,298 guest rooms feature contemporary amenities such as elegant armoires with granite tops and Marriott's new Plug-In technology to connect laptops, MP3 players, digital cameras and video game players to 37' flat screen televisions. The property has 100,000 square feet of flexible meeting space to accommodate up to 2,200 guests. The hotel is within the General Motors Renaissance Center complex, 25 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport and five minutes from Windsor, Ontario.
