Conrad Hong Kong’s Golden Leaf Achieves One Michelin Star and Nicholini’s acknowleged with Four Forks
The very first edition of Michelin’s world-renowned culinary and hotel guide – the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2009 – has awarded one Michelin star to the Conrad Hong Kong’s Golden Leaf Restaurant. The guide also recognised the hotel’s contemporary Italian restaurant – Nicholini’s - with four forks, the highest number received by an Italian restaurant in Hong Kong.
The Michelin guide praises Golden Leaf for its “buzzing atmosphere”, noting that “It’s the food everyone comes for with its emphasis on barbeque meats and live fish”. The guide makes special mention of Golden Leaf’s “extensive dim sum lunchtime menu” and “intricate long list of chef’s recommendations”.
The award of a Michelin star builds on a long list of local awards for Golden Leaf Restaurant, well known within Hong Kong for its delectable Cantonese cuisine, innovatively prepared by master chef So Kai Chiu.
Dennis Clarke, Managing Director and General Manager of the Conrad Hong Kong said he was delighted that the restaurant received the award: “The Michelin Guide is known throughout the world for setting the highest standards in culinary tradition. It is a great honour to receive this recognition in the first-ever Michelin guide for Hong Kong”.
The Golden Leaf Restaurant offers traditional Dim Sum and a la carte dining, with specialty creations such as Stewed Twin Vegetables with Sliced Bean Curd and Gingko and Sautee King Prawns with Hawthorn Herbs and Chili Sauce. The restaurant recently re-opened after a stunning renovation that blends contemporary flair with Chinese elegance.
The Michelin star builds on the success of Golden Leaf which was named one of the best Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong at Hong Kong Tatler’s recent “Dining with Stars” gala event. The Conrad Hong Kong’s northern Italian restaurant, Nicholini’s, also received an award at the event, confirming the Conrad Hong Kong’s reputation as a culinary tour de force.
“Clearly, these awards provide an endorsement for the Conrad Hong Kong’s vision to be one of the best dining spots in Hong Kong,” said Mr Clarke.
The award of the Michelin star to Conrad Hong Kong’s Golden Leaf follows the award last month of one Michelin star each to the Conrad Tokyo’s China Blue restaurant, and Gordon Ramsay at Conrad Tokyo.
