High above the turquoise waters of Laguna Bay and fashion and dining mecca of Hastings Street, construction of Noosa’s first 5-star resort, day spa and conferencing venue in almost 20 years is well underway.

To be managed by Hawaii’s largest hotel group, Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, this premier $300 million project – named Outrigger Little Hastings Street Resort & Spa, Noosa – will not only ‘up the ante’ in accommodation and spa offerings, but will also feature one of the region’s largest conference facilities catering for up to 350 delegates across a range of meeting rooms.

Featuring 197 luxurious hotel rooms, suites and lavish villas and penthouses, the resort is the final stage of the overall Viridian Noosa development by Leighton Properties and the Macquarie Group of Companies.

A day spa to be run by a leading operator, will be complemented by two pools, gymnasium, restaurants, licensed bar, 24-hour room service, extensive conference facilities and break out areas.

Due for completion in early 2010, Outrigger’s director of sales, Narelle Eichorn, said the level of enquiry from both the wholesaler and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions) sectors had been overwhelming.

“The amount of interest we are receiving highlights the strength of Noosa as a world-class tourism and conferencing destination,” Ms Eichorn said.

Attending ATE (Australian Tourism Exchange) earlier this year, a number of major wholesalers approached Ms Eichorn to include Outrigger Little Hastings Street in their 2009/10 brochure print-runs.

“The positive response from the wholesalers is a strong indicator of the pent-up demand for a new 5-star resort and conference facility in the region,” Ms Eichorn said.

“Outrigger Hotels & Resorts has long held a desire to manage a 5-star property in Noosa but such resorts are very few and far between.

“We’re looking forward to becoming part of the community and will build on Noosa’s leading reputation through our own international marketing networks,” she added.

Perched directly above the northern end of Hastings Street, penthouses and villas will offer sprawling views of Laguna Bay stretching from Little Cove down to Double Island Point. Hotel rooms and suites will look directly to the fringing rainforests of Noosa Hill National Park.

The overall Viridian Noosa development has received numerous design, environmental and land management awards over the past two years, and its emphasis on eco design principles places Outrigger Little Hastings Street Resort & Spa in a good position to extend its reach into the soft eco travel segment.
