Park Hotel Group has further expanded its fast-growing stable of properties in Asia-Pacific with the acquisition of Hilton Otaru in Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture. With the acquisition, the 296-room property will be rebranded as Grand Park Otaru.

The 5-star hotel is located on Ishikari Bay, just 35 kilometres away from Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido. The 18-storey hotel is strategically located in the picturesque sea-trading port of Otaru, one of Japan’s top tourist destinations, renowned for its quaint old streets,
Victorian-style buildings and canals, and glass-blowing cottage industries.

Grand Park Otaru’s 296 rooms and suites either have an ocean view, facing Ishikari Bay, or a mountain view, overlooking the town area of Otaru and Mount Tengu. Besides four F&B outlets, conference rooms and a wedding chapel, the hotel also houses Wing Bay Otaru, one of Hokkaido's largest shopping malls, with a wide range of dining, retail and entertainment options including cinemas and spa facilities. It is also in close proximity of top-notch golf
courses and ski resorts.

Otaru is also famous for its fresh seafood and Sushi Street is where you can find restaurants serving the freshest sushi, giant scallops and Hokkaido King Crab. Surrounded by mountains and forests on three sides, the idyllic hotel is very popular with outdoors lovers during the summer months and skiing enthusiasts in the winter as the nearby Mount Tengu boasts some of Japan's finest powder-snow ski slopes as well as stunning views of the bay.

The acquisition of Grand Park Otaru is in line with Singapore-headquartered Park Hotel Group’s aggressive expansion plans to be a leading regional hospitality brand.

“Hilton Otaru is our first Japan acquisition and we have plans to further expand into various areas in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka and Okinawa. After establishing ourselves inSingapore and China, our first acquisition in Japan is yet another step towards expandingour network of strategically-located hotels in key cities throughout Asia-Pacific,” said Park Hotel Group director Mr Allen Law.
