Starwood Hotels & Resorts celebrates two big wins: Hotel giant is voted Best Hotel Group in two prestigious Awards, further ascertaining its market leadership
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) rounded up 2008 with yet another two industry awards – “Best Hotel Group (International)” in the Accommodation/China category at the TravelWeeklyChina Industry Awards 2008 and “Best International Hotel Group” at the recent 2008 China World Traveller Awards.
“It is indeed a great honor to be recognized once again as one of the best in the industry. It has been a fruitful year in which Starwood had celebrated the signing of the 100th hotel in the region as well as successfully opened eight hotels and signed over 25 new hotel deals. Winning these awards is in fact an excellent start to the New Year!” said Mr Qian Jin, Senior Vice President of Operation, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, China & Taiwan.
Inaugurated in 2002, the TravelWeeklyChina Travel Awards recognize the best in the industry and acknowledge their contributions to China’s tourism industry, through expert nominations and reader votes. Over 100,000 individual votes were cast in the one month that voting was opened via an online system.
Besides being voted as the “Best Hotel Group (International)”, Starwood’s hotel in Beijing: The Westin Beijing Financial Street also won the “Best Business Hotel” and “Hotel Chief of the Year” awards for their achievements and contribution to China’s tourism.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts was also distinguished by the first World Traveller Awards as the “Best International Hotel Group”. 2008 World Traveller Awards was organized by World Traveller Media to award the hotels, airlines, destinations towards their contributions and outstanding performance in the region.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has been aggressively expanding its footprint in China, with 46 hotels in operation and over 60 at various stages of construction.
