Marks Beginning of New Growth Period for Company’s Hotel Portfolio
HEI Hotels & Resorts, the nation’s fastest growing private owner/operator of hotel real estate, today announced the appointment of Brian Mayer to the position of senior vice president of operations. He will oversee a newly formed region and report to Ted Darnall, HEI’s chief operating officer.
“The recent formation of our third investment fund and third regional territory establishes a solid platform for us to more aggressively and seamlessly add to our portfolio over the next 12 to 24 months,” said Gary Mendell HEI’s chairman and CEO. “Brian brings with him more than 15 years of fast-track operational experience. His professionalism and prior hotel and restaurant experience will fit well with our existing portfolio of full-service, upper-upscale hotels, as well as those we expect to acquire.”
Prior to joining HEI, Mayer spent nearly 10 years with Starwood Hotel & Resorts in various leadership positions. In his most recent role as vice president of operation innovation and support, North America, Mayer led the evolution of the industry’s first Six Sigma platform and directed the Rooms, Engineering and Sustainability programs through eight brands across 400 owned, managed and franchised hotels. Before working with Starwood, Mayer held a variety of operations management positions, including director of operations of the famed “21” Club in New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel administration from Cornell University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Columbia Business School.
“HEI’s successful growth model is ideal for building a hotel company on a sustainable basis, regardless of the phase of the economic cycle,” Mayer said. “I’m excited to make an impact on this growth and to be a part of a team of experienced leaders on both the operations and real estate sides of the organization.”
