Part of $2 billion global investment, legendary hotel in Portsmouth receives multi-million dollar facelift
The Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center, a stylish elliptical landmark dominating the downtown Norfolk/Portsmouth district, is announcing a 3.5 million-dollar guest room, guest lounge and public space renovation. Renovations are slated to begin in November 2008 and conclude in March 2009.
"What JER has done with The Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel is a big win for the city of Portsmouth, the downtown corridor and our brand," said Andy Schiavone, general manager of the hotel. "These are exciting times for Renaissance and our guests who are discovering new designs, cutting-edge guest rooms, a great local restaurant and lounge."
All Portsmouth accommodations have a 32-inch flat-panel LCD high-definition television featuring picture-in-picture capability allowing wired guests to read e-mails on-screen while watching TV through the use of the Jack-pack system. An electronic Connectivity Panel enables guests' laptops, iPods, cameras, Nintendo Wii and X-Box components to connect to the HDTV. The exclusive Renaissance Club Level and lounge will accommodate the hotel's Club and/or suite guests for complimentary breakfast, hors d'oeuvres and evening cocktails.
The Renaissance will debut a "lobby reinvented" project to its first floor public space. An open space concept will highlight water views of the Elizabeth River. The new day/night bar will feature communal tables enabling its guests the ability to collaborate on projects in a social setting, an espresso bar and a contemporary look. In the evenings, the day bar will be converted into an intimate martini lounge.
