Resort Opens Summer 2009, Marks First of Five Regent Developments in Asia
Regent Hotels & Resorts, www.regenthotels.com, has appointed Brice Borin as General Manager of The Regent Maldives. Opening summer 2009, the 50-villa luxury resort will occupy the entire Maalefushi Island in the Indian Ocean.
Borin brings more than two decades of luxury hospitality experience in Asia to his new position at The Regent Maldives. Most recently Hotel Manager at the 187-room Anantara resort Hua Hin in Thailand, Borin has also served in similar leadership roles at the Anantara resort in the Maldives and at the Le Taha’a Private Island & Spa in French Polynesia. A native of France, Borin’s extensive experience in Asia also includes appointments at hotels in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
“The Regent Maldives will be a stunning boutique property when completed next summer, and Brice will play an integral role in the pre-opening phase with his extensive experience managing luxury hotels in the region. He will also be instrumental in building the Regent brand across Asia,” said Lyle Lewis, Vice President of Operations, Carlson Hotels Worldwide - Asia Pacific.
The all-villa Regent Maldives will feature 27 over-water villas and 23 beach villas, all offering private plunge pools, expansive decks overlooking the lagoon and interiors by designer Hirsch Bedner Associates, whose work includes the Beverly Hills Hotel and Singapore’s Fullerton Hotel. The resort spa will offer tailor-made treatments directly over the expansive lagoon and meditation at the over-water Yoga Pavilion. The Regent Maldives will also feature an organic, on-site chef’s garden, which will produce menu items for the resort’s over-water Asian fusion signature restaurant.
One of five Regent Hotels & Resorts under development in Asia, The Regent Maldives will be succeeded by The Regent Phuket Cape Panwa, Thailand (2009); The Regent Bangkok, Thailand (2010); The Regent Manila Bay, the Philippines (2010); and The Regent Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011). The resort will join three existing properties in the region: The Regent Beijing, The Regent Singapore and The Regent Grand Formosa Taipei.
Regent Hotels & Resorts global developments also include The Regent Emirates Pearl Abu Dhabi, UAE (2010); The Regent Dubrovnik, Croatia (2011); and The Regent Palmas del Mar Puerto Rico (2011).
