Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to welcome impressive line-up of new hotels in 2009

- New Hotels in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and North America Highlight 2009 Openings -

With more than 25 hotels and over 10,000 guestrooms in its development pipeline, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts remains committed to growing its extraordinary collection of luxury hotels, a portfolio that includes unrivaled locations like New York’s famed Plaza Hotel, Mexico’s Fairmont Mayakoba and the Fairmont Singapore. Underscoring Fairmont’s focus on growth and development is its robust schedule of 2009 hotel openings that will see the luxury hotel operator introduce distinctive new hotels in growing markets around the globe including Saudi Arabia and China, while welcoming back a few of the world’s most iconic hotels like London’s legendary Savoy.

Before the year is out, Fairmont will also welcome two new hotels into the fold with the addition of the 222-room Fairmont Beijing and the 150-room Fairmont Battery Wharf in Boston’s historic North End.

In total, Fairmont will add 3,700 guestrooms as it opens the doors at eleven soon-to-be world-class hotels in 2008/09. These include:

Fairmont Beijing - enjoying a premier downtown location close to well-known landmarks such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square, the Fairmont Beijing will feature 222 spacious guestrooms, restaurants and bars including a library lounge, function space together with a multi-purpose theatre, a business center and a 10,000 square foot Willow Stream Spa offering fitness facilities and a swimming pool. (Projected opening - Winter 2008/09)

Fairmont Battery Wharf - located on Boston’s vibrant waterfront, this contemporary, 150-room hotel will feature a restaurant developed in collaboration with three-star Michelin Chef Guy Martin, 6,000 square feet of meeting space, Fairmont Gold, the brand’s exclusive lifestyle guestroom product, a lounge with harbor views, and water taxi service to Boston Logan International Airport. (Projected opening - Winter 2008/09)

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club - recognized as one of Kenya’s most storied safari retreats, this former private haven of Hollywood movie star and club co-founder William Holden will be reflagged a Fairmont hotel in 2009 following an ambitious multi million-dollar renovation program. A noted favorite amongst the rich and famous, Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, located at the base of Mt Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa, features 120 villas and suites in addition to a nine-hole golf course, pool, tennis and varied opportunities for adventure including horseback riding, bird watching and fishing. Makkah Clock Royal Tower, A Fairmont Hotel - one of Fairmont’s largest development projects, this mixed-use hotel, located in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, will feature 1,005 guestrooms and 610 residences and serve as the focal point of the iconic Abraj Al Bait Complex, which includes seven towers and is adjacent to the Masjid al Haram, the holiest site in Islam. The 76-story hotel, at 577 meters (1893 ft.) high, will be among the world’s tallest and will also boast a 40-meter (131 ft.) clock tower that will be more than five times larger than London’s Big Ben. Dubbed the Makkah Clock, it will announce daily prayers to the Muslim world, while housing a Lunar Observation Center and an Islamic Museum. Other property features include Fairmont Gold, numerous dining outlets and extensive conference facilities. (Projected opening - Spring 2009)

Fairmont Abu Dhabi Creek - one of several development projects in the Middle East, this urban, contemporary-designed beachfront resort marks the first of two Fairmont properties that will open in the capital of the United Arab Emirates in the coming years. The resort will offer 369 guestrooms and suites, while other key features include a Fairmont Gold floor, a 30,400 square foot Willow Stream Spa, a diverse selection of fine dining options, and over 29,000 square feet of meeting space including a 1,000 seat ballroom. (Projected opening - Spring 2009)

The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel - paying homage to its original Edwardian and Art Deco design, The Savoy will once again lay claim to its long-standing status as London’s premier social destination when it unveils the culmination of a nearly two-year, £100 million restoration program. A top to bottom endeavor encompassing the entire building from the courtyard and famed American Bar to the public areas and guestrooms, the extensive restoration also trumpets a number of notable highlights including the addition of a luxurious new Royal Suite and the complete remodel of the legendary River Restaurant. In addition, the Savoy Grill will return, again under the operations of Gordon Ramsey Holdings. New to the hotel will be The Beaufort Bar and Savoy Tea Shop, the first an opulent new venue to enjoy champagne and cocktails and the latter a charming gift-shop/patisserie-cum-takeaway offering an array of the Savoy’s own blend of fine teas and gourmet treats. Within the Thames Foyer, the re-introduction of a stunning winter garden gazebo beneath an ornate glass dome will provide the perfect ambience for afternoon tea. (Projected opening - Spring 2009)

Fairmont Yangcheng Lake, Kunshan - part of the brand’s foray into Asia, this resort, located on the scenic shores of Yang Cheng Lake in China’s Jiangsu province, will join sister hotels operating in the region including the Fairmont Singapore and the Fairmont Beijing, expected to debut in winter 2008/2009. A short drive from nearby Shanghai and 15 minutes from Kunshan’s city center, which is home to a growing manufacturing center that produces one third of the world’s notebook PCs, the resort will feature 210 rooms and suites with lakeside views, 30,000 square feet of function space, a spa and health club facility, extensive dining options and a state-of-the-art business center. (Projected opening - Spring 2009)

Fairmont Nile City, Cairo - joining sister Fairmont properties in nearby Heliopolis, the Fairmont Nile City will lay claim to one city’s most envied addresses, overlooking Egypt’s namesake tributary and providing picture postcard views of global wonders like the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza. An ideal respite for business and leisure travelers alike, the 574-room hotel will house four restaurants, four bars and lounges, and Fairmont Gold. Already generating local whispers of interest is the hotel’s Sky Bar and rooftop pool, which will double as a restaurant-lounge by night and offer poolside cocktail lounging during the day. (Projected opening - Summer 2009)

Fairmont Zimbali - not far from sister hotel the Fairmont Zimbali Lodge & Country Club, the Fairmont Zimbali is located on an exceptional stretch of coastline within South Africa’s exclusive Zimbali Coastal Resort on the North Coast of Kwazulu-Natal. Featuring 157 rooms along with a selection of residential and fractional offerings, the resort will boast extensive conference facilities, a Willow Stream Spa and health club facility, and premier golf options including a Gary Player Signature Golf Course, country club and golf academy with state-of-the-art driving range. (Projected opening - Summer 2009)

Fairmont Pittsburgh - the focal point of the city’s downtown revitalization, Fairmont Pittsburgh is certain to be a popular choice with meeting planners with its 185 guestrooms and approximately 12,000 square feet of meeting space that includes a 6,000 square foot divisible ballroom. Another major coup that is sure to please planners - the hotel is being built according to sustainable design and construction guidelines and is anticipated to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, complementing Fairmont’s established philosophy of operational sustainability and responsible tourism. Other hotel features include Andy’s, a lobby lounge and bar, named in honor of Andy Warhol, one of Pittsburgh’s most famous residents, an 8,000 square foot spa and fitness center and a high-end contemporary restaurant. Fairmont Pacific Rim - set to arrive well in advance of the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Fairmont Pacific Rim is a 415-room luxury hotel located in the heart of Vancouver’s historic port and financial district with an unrivalled address adjacent to the city’s new Conference Center. Once complete, the hotel will be heralded as the city’s largest skyscraper providing guests unparalleled views of the snow-capped North Shore Mountains and the unspoiled beauty of nearby Stanley Park. Five-star services include Fairmont Gold rooms and suites, a Willow Stream Spa and 4,000-square foot fully equipped fitness center, and more than 15,000 square feet of onsite meeting and conference space. Other points of interest range from a public art display to an assortment of environmental features such as a geothermal heating system and green roofs on the 6th and 44th floors.
