The Lowndes Hotel closes its doors for extensive refurbishment programme

The Lowndes Hotel in London, part of Jumeirah, the Dubai-based young and dynamic luxury hospitality group, has closed its doors to undergo a USD14 million refurbishment programme.

Set in Knightsbridge, one of London’s prime locations, The Lowndes Hotel in Belgravia Village, is scheduled to re-open in October 2006 when it will be re-rebranded as Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel and positioned in synergy with its sister property Jumeirah Carlton Tower just across the road.

“The extensive refurbishment will give The Lowndes Hotel a fresh, more contemporary appearance, without changing the classic, intimate feel of the property. By updating our well loved property we will be able to offer better services and amenities for our loyal guests, as well as introduce ourselves to a new breed of traveller seeking a sense of ‘well-being’ and tranquillity”, said Jane Renton, General Manager of The Lowndes Hotel. She added: “During the closure, we will continue to support our team of dedicated colleagues via alternative employment options within Jumeirah, to ensure the hotel’s unique personality is retained.”

Among the highlights of the renovation will be the addition of a new sixth floor, which will be dedicated to suites. The new floor will feature four one bedroom suites with sofa beds and five junior suites. The nine new suites, themed in blue, silver and grey shades will bring the total number of guest rooms at The Lowndes Hotel to 87 of which 14 will be suites.

In addition to the new floor and the refurbishment of the hotel’s existing guest rooms, the lobby area will be completely remodelled to create flowing spaces with an art-deco influence, oak features and limestone flooring in sleek rust colour tones and the reception and concierge desks will be completely re-designed, adjoining the vibrant and stylish glass enclosed Belgrave Bar, serving meals, snacks and cocktails.

The hotel’s restaurant will be refurbished and will get a complete new look and feel whilst retaining the relaxed atmosphere and warmth that has become popular with neighbourhood patrons. The new No.21 Restaurant will serve delectable Mediterranean cuisine with alfresco dining on the terrace overlooking Lowndes Square.

In addition, intimate and flexible conference & banqueting facilities will be available on the ground floor of the hotel for private dining, cocktail parties and meetings.

The hotel’s re-branding within the rapidly growing Jumeirah portfolio places the property in the company of some of the world’s most luxurious and innovative hotels in the world.
