All eyes were toward the Las Vegas sky yesterday evening as the $1 billion M Resort, Spa and Casino debuted its 178 foot M Lightship -- the resort's electronic blimp with the world's largest 70' x 30' aerial television screen on the side. The M Lightship will be the only airship in the world offering the public a close-up, hands-on experience. The resort intends to create a center, which will provide information about the Lightship as well as offer the public a chance to meet the captain and crew, take photos and obtain Lightship souvenirs.

"We envision the M Lightship as an exciting addition to the Las Vegas community," said Anthony A. Marnell, III. "Plans are underway to house the lightship on a property adjacent to the resort and we are looking forward to offering tours of the lightship to the public."

Marnell announced the resort will utilize the 7,705 pound M Lightship to aid in marketing efforts for the resort, which opens in March 2009 and resides at the southern gateway to the city's famous Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard South.

The Lightship is able to broadcast a multitude of media from live television and streaming video, to Web sites and static images and offers vibrant full-color clarity. The M Lightship and its 2,100 square foot advertising screen will be visible to thousands of residents and many of the nearly 40 million visitors coming to the city each year. The Lightship's lightsign -- the television screen on its side -- is comprised of 235,000 LED (light emitting diodes) that allow the messages to be seen for miles away.

Other fun facts about the Lightship include:

-- 18 - The number of crew members for the M Lightship
-- 30-35 - The miles per hour that the M Lightship cruises above Las
Vegas
-- 525 - The number of tiles that make up the M Lightship's lightsign
-- 800-1,000 - The number of feet the M Lightship flies above Las Vegas
-- 7,705 - The number of pounds the M Lightship weighs
-- 23,000 - The number of square feet of Tedlar material that compose the
Lightship's envelope
-- 170,000 - The number of cubic feet of helium that the M Lightship
needs to be fully-inflated
