Officials at the Sheraton Hotel North Houston at George Bush International Airport today said that they have temporarily closed the property following water damage, primarily to the lobby area and meeting space, caused by Hurricane Ike. The 420-room property, located at 15700 John F. Kennedy Blvd., is approximately one mile from the Houston International Airport.

The hotel suffered roof damage due to high winds and heavy rains to its two-story atrium over its amphitheater meeting space and subsequent water damage. All the recently refurbished hotel rooms came through the storm without damage.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt at the property during the hurricane and we already have begun the clean-up process," said Robert Kisker, general manager of the hotel. "Based on our preliminary evaluation, we expect to re-open the hotel following clean-up and repairs later this month. We look forward to getting back to serving our guests as quickly as possible."

Guests who have booked rooms between now and September 17, should plan on booking a room at another hotel. Guests who have booked rooms later than September 17 should check the hotel's Web site www.Sheraton.com/NorthHouston or call 1-800-325-3535 to obtain updated information about when the hotel will reopen.
