The eagerly awaited results of the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Reader’s Travel Awards were announced at a gala evening in London on September 1st.
And the winner of The Best in the World: Six Senses Hideaway Samui.
The Best in the World is determined by reader voting, with every travel category compiled into a single ultimate list. Categories include countries, islands, cities, hotels, resorts, destination spas, cruise lines, airlines, airports and tour operators. To be placed in the number one position is an overwhelming endorsement of excellence. Six Senses Hideaway Samui achieved the near perfect score of 96.45, and more than one full point ahead of its nearest contender.
Not only did Six Senses Hideaway Samui walk away with the ultimate award it was also top in the Best Overseas Hotels category. Referring to the voting readers, Conde Nast Traveller stated: “Every one of you who stayed there raved about its sophisticated ambience/décor (93.75), environmental friendliness (97.50), lovely location (97) and extensive leisure facilities (96.25)”.
Six Senses Hideaway Samui follows in the footsteps of the group’s flagship property, Soneva Fushi, which was also awarded The Best in the World in 2002.
Besides the top award, Soneva Gili by Six Senses in the Maldives, was positioned as number 26 in The World’s Top 100, while the innovative Six Senses Earth Spa at Six Senses Hideaway Hua Hin – Thailand, took 8th position in Best Spas in Overseas Hotels
Six Senses Hideaway Samui is a Sala property, and was the first of the Six Senses Hideaway branded resorts, opening in 2004 on the Thai island of Samui. Other Six Senses Hideaways, which feature all private pool villas, are located in Hua Hin and Yao Noi – Thailand, Ninh Van Bay – Vietnam, Zighy Bay - on the Musandam Peninsula of Oman, and the island of Vatulele in Fiji. Six Senses Hideaway Con Dao – Vietnam, is slated to open in mid-2009, and several other Six Senses Hideaways are being developed in exotic locations such as Phu Quoc – Vietnam and Camaragibe – Brazil.
