Marriott International Announces Five New Hotels for its Caribbean/Latin America Region

New hotels in Ecuador, Honduras, Peru, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago planned. Include upscale Marriott, moderate-priced Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn for extended-stay travelers brands.

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has announced five new hotels for its Caribbean/Latin American region, spanning its upscale Marriott, moderate-priced Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn for extended-stay travelers brands. The hotels are:

• 135-room Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil, Ecuador, opening in 2008
• 138-room Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo, Suriname, opening in 2008
• 144-room Courtyard by Marriott San Pedro Sula, Honduras, opening in 2010
• 160-room Cuzco Marriott Hotel, Peru, opening in 2010
• 138-room Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo, Suriname, opening in 2010
• 100-unit Residence Inn by Marriott Port of Spain, Trinidad, opening in 2010.

“We are excited by the range of travel experiences these five properties will represent and that, with the exception of the Courtyard hotel in Suriname, all are additional properties in countries in which we are already operating, thereby enabling us to give local and long distance travelers more opportunities to experience the Marriott International brand of lodging hospitality in these countries,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International.

The following is a description of the hotels announced here:

Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil, Ecuador
Owned by Soroa S.A., Marriott International will manage the Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil which will be located on Avenida Francisco de Orellana, Guayaquil’s main thoroughfare, crossing the city’s Central Business District. The area is part of a rapidly developing commercial district that includes several office buildings, two hotels, two shopping centers and several dining and entertainment venues. Guayaquil International Airport is just two kilometers away.

In-room amenities at the Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil will include coffee/tea makers, high speed Internet access, flat-screen television. For dining and entertainment, the hotel will have a casual restaurant serving three meals daily and a lobby lounge. Other amenities will include a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool, a small business center and The Market offering sundries and snacks for travelers in a hurry.


For small conferences, the hotel will have 2,000 square feet of meeting space comprised of three meeting rooms. The first measuring 1,100 square feet will be divisible into two sections. The other two meeting rooms measure 550 and 350 square feet, respectively.

When opened, the Courtyard by Marriott Guayaquil will join the JW Marriott Hotel Quito as Marriott’s second property in Ecuador.

Courtyard by Marriott San Pedro Sula in Honduras
The Courtyard by Marriott San Pedro Sula will join Marriott International’s portfolio in 2010 under a franchise agreement with Corporacion Hotelera Internacional, S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Grupo Poma of El Salvador. Grupo Poma also franchises five other Marriott International properties under the Marriott, JW Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott brands in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia. When opened, the Courtyard by Marriott San Pedro Sula will be Marriott International’s second hotel in Honduras.

The hotel will be located in the Barrio Rio de Piedras, the most desirable section of the city. It will front onto Boulevard Los Proceres between 25th and 26th avenues and will be immediately adjacent to El Centro Social Hondureno Arabe, considered to be the “elite” membership club in San Pedro Sula.

For dining and entertainment, the hotel will have a casual restaurant serving three meals daily and an open, flexible lobby bar that will encourage guests to socialize informally throughout the day. Recreational amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center. For those on-the-go, the hotel will have The Market, offering sundries and snacks. Business center-like services will be offered at a business library that will be adjacent to the front desk.

In-room amenities will include high speed internet access, flat-screen television, a mini-refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, a coffee/tea maker and a safe.

For meetings and social events, the Courtyard by Marriott San Pedro Sula will have 160 square meters of conference space consisting of three individual meeting rooms.


Cuzco Marriott Hotel in Peru
The Cuzco Marriott Hotel will be managed by Marriott International under a long-term agreement with Inversiones La Rioja, S.A. The hotel will be located on a 14,000 square foot site at the intersection of San Agustin and Ruinas, in the heart of Cuzco’s colonial district. Within walking distance are the Museum of Religious Art, the Archeological Museum and the Museum of Natural History.

For dining and entertainment, the hotel will offer a casual three-meal restaurant that will accommodate early-risers planning a day-trip to Machu Pichu and an informal, lobby lounge whose ambience will evolve throughout the day.

In-room amenities will include high-speed internet access, two-line telephone with dataport and voicemail, coffee service, mini-refrigerator and oxygen for those impacted by Cuzco’s altitude.

Recreational amenities will include a fitness center offering a large whirlpool and two treatment rooms. The business center will provide for internet booths.

For conferences and social events, the hotel will have 2,300 square feet of space comprised of one room that will be divisible into two sections and a boardroom.

When opened in 2010, the Cuzco Marriott Hotel will be Marriott’s second hotel in Peru, joining the JW Marriott Hotel Lima.

Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo in Suriname
The Courtyard by Marriott Paramaribo in Suriname will join the Marriott International system under a franchise agreement with Twin Hotels N.V. It will be situated along the Suriname River on Anton Dragtenweg Street in northern Paramaribo, surrounded by the upscale residential Elizabethshof and Flamingo Park districts. The international airport is located 30 minutes south of the city.

For dining and entertainment, the hotel will offer a casual restaurant serving three meals daily a spacious lobby lounge. Recreational amenities will consist of an exercise room and an outdoor swimming pool. In room amenities will include high speed internet access, telephone with date port and voice mail, flat screen television, coffee/tea service and safe.

For conferences and social events, the hotel will offer 1,941 square feet of meeting space comprised of a 1,624-square foot meeting room that will be divisible into three sections and a 317-square foot ballroom.

When opened, it will be Marriott International’s first representation in Suriname.

Residence Inn by Marriott Port-of-Spain in Trinidad
Marriott International will manage the Residence Inn by Marriott Port-of-Spain under an agreement reached with CAL Hospitality Investments Ltd. When opened, it will be the second Residence Inn by Marriott property for extended-stay travelers in Marriott’s Caribbean and Latin American region. It will be located at 11 and 13 Coblenz Avenue in the Cascade section of Port-of-Spain in a residential area close to Queen’s Park Savannah and the President’s Residence.

The Residence Inn by Marriott Port-of-Spain will have a Gatehouse/Lounge that will offer a daily breakfast.

Its residential-like, tastefully appointed accommodations will be comprised of studio, one-and two-bedroom units each equipped with a full kitchen, in-unit coffee/tea service, high-speed internet access, flat screen television and safe.

Recreational amenities will include an exercise room and an outdoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

The Marriott International portfolio in the Caribbean and Latin American region currently consists of 51 hotels, offering 12,759 rooms spanning seven brands in 20 countries.
