India’s leading stars and celebrities from its glittering movie industry stayed at Dusit Thani Bangkok, the official host hotel for the prestigious 9th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend 2008. They included Amitabh Bachchan, the most famous Indian actor, along with his son and actor Abhisek Bachchan and his wife, the beautiful former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Dusit Thani Bangkok, was selected to play host to the IIFA Weekend 2008 because of its ideal location and reputation as the home to the stars when in the City of Angels.
The IIFA weekend is the annual celebration of India's movie industry, promoting the country's films and personalities to a global audience. Its highlight on June 8, the IIFA Awards Ceremony, was seen by an estimated 600 million people worldwide.

IIFA honours the Indian film industry and is the foremost forum that celebrates Indian Cinema on a global platform. We had prepared for months until our wonderful Dusit Thani staff starred on the world stage with IIFA” added Mr McCafferty.
Among the many events held at the hotel during the IIFA weekend included a star-studded Lobby Lounge party following the Awards Ceremony, along with a Business Forum between Local Thai-Indian entrepreneurs and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), and press conference.
Meanwhile, movie stars and guests staying at Dusit Thani Bangkok were pleasured with a room service menu featuring many Indian specialities. At the same time, regular city guests enjoyed the Indian Food Festival at the hotel’s Pavilion Restaurant, with two first class chefs flown in from India specially for the event “Celebrating IIFA with the Best Of India’s Cuisines”.
Previous IIFA Weekends were held in the UK, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai.
