30,000-square-foot, 15-room lodge welcomes guests
Culminating two years of construction, Three Forks Ranch welcomes the first guests of the season to the Three Forks Lodge and Roaring Fork Spa. Situated on 200,000 acres along the Colorado-Wyoming border, Three Forks Ranch is a working cattle ranch and celebrated fly-fishing destination characterized by the mountains, waterways, big sky and wildlife of the Sierra Madre mountain range.
Since its establishment in 1999, Three Forks Ranch has offered a destination experience with a unique combination of classic Western fly-fishing and focus on intimate service. The lodge, designed by Eric Smith & Associates, epitomizes eclectic American style and reaches capacity with just 30 guests.
"We are pleased to write this new chapter in the Three Forks Ranch story. Our guests have returned time and time again for our unmatched fishing conditions and our dedication to individual attention," said Jay Linderman, general manager. "The opening of the new lodge and spa takes the Three Forks Ranch experience to a new level. We're delighted to invite old and new friends into our expanded home."
Giant-beamed cathedral ceilings and European hand-carved paneling anchor the interiors, designed by Glenn McGee. The 15 guest rooms are appointed with antique oriental rugs, silk-linen wallpaper, Bellisari Italian linens, Chadsworth & Haig robes and L'Occitane toiletries. Nearly all rooms in the lodge have views of the Little Snake River Valley.
The lodge's signature five-star meals are prepared by executive chef Marc LeDuc and enjoyed by guests in the Oxbow dining room. Manager-hosted afternoon teas and wine tastings are offered daily.
A unique attribute of the fly-fishing property is the 6,000-square-foot Roaring Fork Spa. Complete with hot tubs, soaking pools, and four massage and treatment rooms, Roaring Fork Spa offers a full complement of services. Notable treatments include the Little Snake River Stone Therapy, Sportsman's Relief Massage and the Catch-and-Release Body Wrap.
The openings of Three Forks Lodge and Roaring Fork Spa are significant milestones in the short but rich history of Three Forks Ranch. Upon purchase of the ranch in 1999, it became evident that the 16 miles of waterways and the 30 oxbow lakes that cut through the 200,000-acre property were in jeopardy and that the fish population was suffering. A massive restoration process was required to return the waters to their former glory.
Led by hydrologist Dr. Dave Rosgen of Wildland Hydrology, a plan was developed to reduce erosion, plant new vegetation and develop wetlands. The result is not only the largest privately funded river restoration in U.S. history but also one of the most pristine fly-fishing environments in North America.
The 20 Three Forks Ranch fishing guides represent more than 150 collective years of fly-fishing expertise. Itineraries are custom-built depending on guests' skill levels and interests. The waterways offer fishing opportunities for both the novice and seasoned angler, and the oxbow lakes provide the ideal environment to learn or refine casting skills. Fishing for brook, cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout is all catch-and-release.
The summer fly-fishing season runs through October 31, 2008. Additional recreational activities include trips on horseback, four-wheeling adventures, picnics, wildlife viewing, hiking and sport clay shooting.
The winter season begins December 15, 2008, and runs through March 15, 2009. Three Forks Ranch offers a winter recreation package that includes cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, alpine skiing excursions to nearby Steamboat Springs, sleigh rides and dogsledding. The lodge is available for Christmas and holiday bookings.
Three Forks Ranch is located 40 miles north of Steamboat Springs, Colo. The property is 65 miles from the Hayden, Colo., airport and 246 miles from Denver International Airport.
