Marriott’s portfolio in Thailand adds family-friendly, budget-savvy hotels in 2008

With the opening of four Courtyard by Marriott hotels over the next six months, Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) will help make family travel more affordable at two of Thailand’s most popular holiday destinations—Phuket and Hua Hin.

Opening today is the 256-room Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach.

The general manager is Theera Kanjana and Sonal Malik is the Director of Sales. The hotel is currently offering a special introductory rate of 2999 THB ++ ($91 USD), including breakfast for two.

Future openings this year include the:
• 396-room Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Patong Beach, opening (2nd quarter 2008)
• 180-room Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Kamala Beach, opening (2nd quarter 2008)
• 243-room Courtyard by Marriott Hua Hin at Cha-Am Beach, opening (2nd quarter 2008)

“We are very excited about the opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach,” said John Toomey, Marriott’s area marketing director for Hong Kong, Macau & Southeast Asia. “Our Courtyard brand has earned a strong reputation worldwide for its welcoming environment and this hotel in particular offers a laid-back atmosphere ideal for a restful vacation experience.”

The new property is located near Surin Beach, offering convenient access to the beautiful sandy beaches and nearby area attractions and restaurants. Surin Beach’s crystal clear waters are ideal for a number of recreational activities, including snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding and surfing.

The Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach offers guests comfortable rooms, each with private balconies and soothing surroundings. The five-story hotel houses 256 deluxe rooms and suites. The spacious rooms offer an artful blend of comfort and functionality. Each room is equipped with the latest entertainment technology, high-speed Internet and luxurious bedding.

Recreational amenities include a swimming pool, kid’s pool, fitness facility, and KIDSWORLD.

KIDSWORLD features a variety of fun amusements and activities for children. More than just an area for children to swim and hang out, KIDSWORLD has a full array of sports and cultural activities from an arts and crafts studio, a science lab and a computer room to a “pretend” costume/dress up area. Children can enjoy a kids-sized movie theater and the Ball House, a place for them to jump and play surrounded by hundreds of mini-balls. Parents can take advantage of baby-sitting services to let them get away and enjoy the destination on their own.

The hotel offers several dining options, including the MoMo Café, serving innovative international cuisine for lunch and dinner, as well as a sumptuous daily breakfast buffet. Guests can also relax and enjoy libations at the pool bar, or pick-up fresh pastries, desserts and coffee at MoMo 2Go.

Other Marriott International-branded hotels scheduled to open in Thailand through 2010 include:
• 195-unit Sathorn Vista, Bangkok—Marriott Executive Apartments (2008)
