Award-Winning, Adopt-A-School Programme by Doubletree Is Extended Internationally

To Teach Children Important Lessons About Environmental Conservation and Stewardship

World Environment Day (5 June) this year not only saw Doubletree by HiltonT celebrating the opening its first hotel in the UK, but also announcing they have entered into a long-term relationship with the Woodland TrustT - the UK's leading woodland conservation charity - bringing two "tree brands" together in the UK.

On 5 June, an interactive and fun workshop was held with students from Ickneild School in Sawston, Cambridgeshire for them to learn more about and raise awareness about the importance of trees through Doubletree Hotels' Teaching Kids to CARE® environmental education programme.

The upscale, full-service hotel brand has extended its community commitment to environmental education and stewardship in the communities and countries it serves, a longstanding tradition that Doubletree already celebrates with nearly 200 hotels across the Americas.

Doubletree Hotels worked together with educators and environmental education experts to develop a series of lesson plans and education resources for participating schools and youth organisations to teach children about the various types of trees.

"Children are often the forgotten piece of the puzzle in the fight to care for the environment," said Diane Van Grondelle, general manager, Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge Garden House. "By empowering and educating them at a young age through our Doubletree Teaching Kids to CARE programme, a new generation is being inspired to learn ways to preserve the planet's precious resources and make a positive impact for years to come."

Using an official Tree Identification Swatch Guide presented during the workshop by environmental education specialist, Janet Watt from the Woodland Trust, students learned about a variety of local tree species and the methods and techniques that arborists use to identify trees across the UK. In addition, they explored the importance of trees in the environment, functions of each part of a tree and fun facts surrounding some of the most unique trees in the world.
