Hilton Hotels has appointed Nils-Arne Schroeder as General Manager of Hilton Beijing Wangfujing, an intimate, life-style property scheduled to open on 8 July 2008, is located near to the Forbidden City and other landmark cultural and commercial icons in Beijing’s famous Wangfujing district.

The role marks a new milestone in Nils-Arne’s eighteen year career in hospitality which led him from his native Cologne in Germany to South Korea and now to Beijing. Having worked with Hilton Hotels for over 9 years, Nils-Arne has been responsible for the flawless opening of Hilton hotels in Malaysia and South Korea.

While the location and setting may be different, Nils-Arne brings the same passion for service excellence and hands-on experience in developing and opening the Hilton Beijijng Wangfujing, which will be the third hotel opening that he is set to oversee.

President of Hilton Hotels - Asia Pacific, Koos Klein, stated, “Nils-Arne brings a global understanding of the hospitality industry to the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing. This, teamed with his keen attention to detail and his expert understanding of the international traveller’s requirements makes him ideally suited to spearhead the launch of the newest addition to the Hilton portfolio in China."

Commenting on his new challenge, Nils-Arne said, “I’ve never looked at being a General Manager as a job, but more a way of life. It’s a lifestyle that I live and breathe. I have a great time doing what I do because I am passionate about it.”

As General Manager of Hilton Beijing Wangfujing, he will draw upon this enthusiasm to lead 500 employees and managers. He is also responsible for the hotel’s overall vision and performance including financial success; brand value; guest engagement; service excellence and employee development.

His most recent position was that of General Manager during the pre-opening period for Hilton’s first Worldwide Resort in South Korea, the award-winning Hilton Namhae Golf & Spa Resort; a 170 all-suite and villa estate, featuring panoramic coastal views and stunning contemporary design, with extensive facilities including a seafront 18-hole golf course with an all-year round playability and a full-service spa.

Nils-Arne’s background, along with his demonstrated success in impacting revenue growth and developing strong customer service, helped to position the property as the resort of choice for both business and leisure travellers. He also played an integral role in further developing processes to build and differentiate the Hilton brand in South Korea.

Prior to his posting in South Korea, Nils was tasked as Director of Business Development for Hilton Kuala Lumpur also during its pre-opening stage. In this position he combined his knowledge of the hospitality industry with his experience in sales and marketing. His initiatives included re-engineering many key sales functions, including reservations, sales tracking and customer relationship management. During his tenure, the hotel won numerous accolades including the “Five Star Diamond Award” from the American Association of Hospitality Sciences, and five awards at the regional Asia Travel and Tourism Creative awards, was nominated as “Best Business Hotel in Asia” at the 2005 World Travel Awards and voted “Best Business Hotel in Asia” by TTG Asia.

With eighteen years of hospitality experience under his belt, Nils-Arne is excited to be able to once again explore the diversity of the progressive Chinese market. “I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting hotel development. Hilton Beijing Wangfujing will herald a new generation of hotels for the city, particularly with the unique components we will offer through contemporary design, exceptional facilities, memorable dining experiences and superb location. When Hilton Beijing Wangfujing opens it will attract domestic and international business and leisure travelers alike.”
