Hilton Hotels Corporation recognized top developers and hotels during its Focused Service Brand Owners’ Conference for Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Hilton Garden Inn® and Homewood Suites by Hilton®, held earlier this month in Dallas. The conference was attended by more than 1,100 guests, including owners, brand teams and Hilton Hotels Corporation team members.
Each brand recognized a Developer of the Year, Best Conversion, Deal of the Year and Outstanding Achievement for the developers who had the greatest number of project approvals or who developed one or more unique hotels that helped enhance the brand’s image in 2007. Together, the brands also recognized a Multi-Brand Developer of the Year who made significant contributions to the Hilton Family of Hotels with the most number of project approvals in 2007. To be considered, all hotels in the candidates’ Hilton Family portfolio had to be rated high-quality and in good status, and could represent a combination of new projects, renovations and conversions.

Multi-Brand Developer of the Year
A prolific developer particularly in the southeast region of the U.S., North Point Hospitality was approved to develop five hotels in 2007, including the Hampton Inn & Suites Atlanta Midtown, the Hilton Garden Inn Nashville Vanderbilt, the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Midtown, the Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta Midtown, the Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta Midtown and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historical District. Each of the projects is large, high profile, and with high barriers to entry. Jay Patel has been a loyal Hilton developer with 13 Hilton properties.
Hampton Developer of the Year
Hampton Hotels presented the award for Developer of the Year to H & H Paramedical Services, Inc. Based in Jackson, Tenn., H & H Paramedical Services, Inc. has been in operation since 1999. The company currently has two Hampton Hotels in its development pipeline with plans to explore developing additional Hilton Family hotels in the near future.
Hilton Garden Inn Developer of the Year
Hilton Garden Inn presented Deno Yiankes, president of White Lodging Services Corporation, based in Merrillville, Ind., with the Developer of the Year award. In the last two years, White Lodging has stepped up to develop Hilton Garden Inn locations in high-barrier-to-entry markets in the greater Chicago area and in Austin, Texas. They also were able to get two hotels under construction in Illinois in the cities of Schaumburg and Lake Forest / Mettawa as well as one hotel in Austin. In addition, White Lodging was also approved for two other Hilton Garden Inn projects in Naperville / Warrenville, Ill., and Austin Airport. Each location is highly strategic for its respective market and places the Hilton Garden Inn brand in a superior position to its competitive set in these difficult to enter markets.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Developer of the Year
Homewood Suites presented its Developer of the Year award to President of Bayview Hospitality, Al Gulamani. Gulamani opened his first Homewood Suites in Mississauga, Canada, in 2005, and since then, has opened a new property each year. He is known for quick, quality builds, generally completing a project from groundbreaking to opening in less than 12 months. Gulamani tends to secure excellent sites that offer shops, restaurants and businesses to support extended-stay business. He has served on the Homewood Suites Owner’s Advisory Council for three years.
