The casual seaside atmosphere at Anantara Resort Hua Hin’s alfresco Sai Thong Restaurant and Bar, set in the resort’s lush garden with the soothing sounds of the Andaman Ocean’s waves lapping on the beach nearby, makes for a magical experience. In the evenings, fresh seafood and imported steaks are grilled to perfection. Fine wines and creative concoctions round it all off. But wait, there’s another kind of magic working its way here – somebody’s got a few tricks up his sleeve!
The radiant smile and twinkle in the eyes of Khun Sunti Keawpraiwet is a small hint that the Food & Beverage Captain at Sai Thong Bar brings with him more than just the drinks tray…
“I’ve always looked at my job as much more than just making great cocktails and serving drinks. I want Sai Thong Restaurant and Bar to be an experience for guests, and at the same time make if fun for myself. So, in between my work and when I have time, I started doing little tricks. Like producing a coin from a lemon, or making a toothpick disappear within a folded napkin. Of course, guests are always very surprised, and would often ask me to teach them how to do it.
Ever since I joined Anantara Resort Hua Hin seven years ago, I have been able to interact with guests by sharing knowledge I have of the area, since I grew up in Hua Hin and know it very well. I enjoy working with people, and feel lucky to have a career that brings me in touch with so many kinds of people from all over the world.
From a very young age I’ve already had an interest in magic. I learned a few tricks from friends, and that’s how it all started. My favourite trick is to make a coin disappear from a glass. It’s not that difficult, really, it just takes some practice! Doing these magic tricks makes my work fun – for guests, and for me.
Maybe they will remember me when they think back about their experience here at Anantara. That would be really nice. Everybody likes to be remembered…”
