The Blackstone Reveals $128 Million Imaginative Look and Feel at a Party, 98 Years in the Making
Yesterday, the historic and newly renovated Blackstone, a Renaissance Hotel, unveiled the future of the Renaissance brand to an eclectic group of over 500 local luminaries and leaders, including The Honorable Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago. The transformation of the prominent national landmark -- Chicago’s “Hotel of Presidents” -- represents yet another significant milestone in the revitalization of Chicago’s South Loop downtown.
The grand “discovery” celebration showcased the Blackstone’s recent extensive $128 million renovation of the historic, long dormant, 23-story, Beaux-Arts building by Sage Hospitality. Guests mingled throughout the hotel’s Grand Lobby, Crystal Ballroom and other areas showcasing Renaissance’s latest innovations in design and décor, technology, culinary arts and signature cocktails. A modern Catalan cuisine of extraordinary tapas dishes was served throughout the evening from the hotel’s Mercat a la Planxa restaurant. Guests also enjoyed signature “Cocktail Culture” cocktails, Renaissance’s new twist on drink mixology that brings the guest into the creative process.
“What Sage has done with The Blackstone is a big win for the city of Chicago and our Renaissance brand,” said Rita Cuddihy, senior vice president, Renaissance Hotels & Resorts. “These are exciting times for Renaissance and our guests who are discovering new designs, cutting edge guest rooms, great local restaurants and lounges, and some very fun and creative signature cocktails. We have more than 140 properties worldwide, so there is plenty for travelers and locals to experience and enjoy.”
The Blackstone, a Renaissance Hotel’s renovation, is part of a $2 billion global investment by the brand’s owners and franchisees (2006 - 2008). This global makeover has included the $24 million renovation of The Renaissance
Times Square Hotel, the $25.2 million renovation of the Renaissance M Street Hotel in Washington D.C., and the $100 million historic restoration of the Renaissance Providence Hotel, also by Sage Hospitality, which represents the most ambitious historic restoration ever undertaken in the history of Rhode Island.
