Bruce Wardinski, Chairman and CEO of Barceló Crestline Corporation today announced the promotion of Pierre Donahue within the executive management team to the role of Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Mr. Donahue previously served the company as SVP & General Counsel. In conjunction with this promotion, Mr. Donahue will also serve in the same functions on behalf of Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. (Playa), a privately held Spanish company focusing on the acquisition and development of all–inclusive beachfront resorts in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. Playa was formed in 2006 by Spain-based Grupo Barceló. Barceló Crestline filled a critical role in setting up Playa and attracting investors, and subsequent to the company’s formation, Barceló Crestline has, in its role as asset manager, overseen a dramatic expansion in the size and branding of the portfolio. Playa now owns 17 resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic that are managed by Barceló Hotels & Resorts or by AMResorts under the Secrets, Dreams and Sunscape brands.
Mr. Donahue joined Barceló Crestline in September, 2006 from Marriott International where he enjoyed a 10 year career in which he rose from Corporate Counsel to Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, and became the leader of the Law Department’s North American Lodging Operations group, supervising six attorneys and nine paralegals. Prior to his tenure with Marriott International, Mr. Donahue was with the law firm of Hogan & Hartson where he first served in the antitrust department and then as a litigation attorney.
Mr. Donahue received his law degree from UCLA in 1988, graduating with the Order of the Coif in the top three percent of his class. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College magna cum laude in 1984. Mr. Donahue is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
