Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa honoured for Angkor Wat clean-up
Indochina\'s Victoria Hotels & Resorts recently scooped a prestigious environmental award at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2008 in Bangkok.
The “off-the-beaten-track” specialists collected the “ASEAN Green Hotel Standard” award for their outstanding environmental efforts at Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa is renowned for its annual ‘Green Day’ clean-up of nearby Angkor Wat, the World Heritage temple complex famed as one of the great wonders of the world.
The ASEAN Green Hotel Recognition Awards recognize environmental conservation commitment and energy conservation measures.
The Green Hotel Recognition Committee acknowledges hotels for environmental policy and action, use of green products, collaboration with the community and local organizations, human resource development, solid waste management, energy efficiency, water efficiency, air quality management (indoor and outdoor), noise pollution control, waste water treatment and management, and toxic and chemical substance disposal management.
Victoria Hotels & Resorts organizes its ‘Green Day’ every year at beauty-spots around all of its six resorts and spas in Vietnam and Cambodia.
The annual environmental campaign encourages local community involvement and is staged from Vietnam’s north-west highlands, where minority hill tribes participate, to the Vietnam coast, Mekong Delta and Angkor Wat.
Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa in the north-west mountains of Vietnam enlisted a corps of over 1,600 local schoolchildren, mostly from, along with war veterans and local authorities to join last year’s clean-up.
The ASEAN Secretariat presented the awards in a ceremony at the Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok on January 23rd, 2008.
Mr. Eric Simard, Managing Director of Victoria Hotels & Resorts said: “As a group we are committed to spreading the environmental message across Indochina.”
