Jordan’s Ma’in Hot Springs is the inspired site for the latest Evason property being developed by Six Senses Resorts & Spas. Set like an oasis in the dramatic terrain – 264 metres below sea level, with views towards the Dead Sea, the Evason Ma’in is just a one-hour drive west of the capital of Amman. The healing benefits of the hot springs has lured visitors for centuries, with legend having it that Herod the Great bathed in the medicinal waters.

Originally constructed in the 1980’s, the resort building is currently undergoing a twelve million dollar make-over to convert it to an Evason. This includes a new free-standing Six Senses Spa complex that will focus on the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich waters, offering Healing Mineral and Dead Sea therapies such as salt scrubs and the famed mud wraps. The spa will also feature an a la carte menu of Six Senses signature treatments including the renowned Sensory Journey.

The purpose-built Six Senses Spa complex has been chosen as the best environment friendly architectural project in a competition organized by the Jordanian Association of Engineers. The award ceremony held on January 12, 2008 recognized the great effort contributed to the project by the Jordanian firm of DARB Architects & Engineers.

The reconfigured accommodations will offer ninety-four deluxe guestrooms and suites, including two Royal Suites. Several suites will feature personal spa facilities. Décor will reflect the Evason concept of fresh and colourful furnishings focusing on the use of natural materials.

Refurbishment of the dining and refreshment outlets will include a Chef’s Table – a concept proving overwhelmingly popular in many Six Senses properties, and an olive press where guests can create their own oil and enjoy it with various types of olive specialties. A traditional Jordanian tray-restaurant with plump cushions and carpeted floors, will be created, while a Wine Cellar will offer regular degustation dinners and tastings. A Brown Bar and a White Bar will also be installed. Additional outdoor service will be available beside a new infinity pool, which overlook the hot spring waterfalls. Wood-fired oven specialties and a pizza bar will be featured.

Evason Ma’in will also operate the Panorama Restaurant, which is located a ten-minute drive from the resort and sits on a cliff top at the edge of the Dead Sea. From this vantage point, guests will experience beautiful sunsets reflecting across the waters, and catch a glimpse of the lights of Jerusalem.

Due to re-open in late 2008, the refurbishment of Evason Ma’in has been under the direction of the Six Senses Creative team.
