Opportunity to Explore the Many Ways that Spa Can Enhance Wellness
The International SPA Association Foundation expands its educational endowment opportunities with the Ruth Stricker Spa & Wellness Award. Named in honor of the founder of The Marsh, a Center for Balance and Fitness in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the award offers financial assistance for the purpose of stimulating research and exploration into the various ways that spa can meet current healthcare needs, promote wellness, and enhance quality of life.
“As an international spokesperson for the mind/body connection, Ruth Stricker believes true wellness involves the mental, spiritual and emotional, as well as the physical aspects of one’s life,” said ISPA Foundation President Edwin Neill III. “The Ruth Stricker Spa & Wellness Award supports those who are interested in life enrichment by delving deeper into timely issues facing us today.”
Stricker added, “I believe that many of the ideals embedded in a spa can bring a wellness perspective to the lives of many more people. There are so many underserved populations in our demographics today who are looking for affirmation and acknowledgement as viable human beings.”
The award will support a project that demonstrates a unique or unrecognized benefit of spa in promoting wellness. While all proposals will be considered, those focusing on the following areas will be given extra consideration:
· Aging
· Techno Stress
· Chronic illness
· Lost/loneliness
Award recipients will receive $2,500 USD toward research, as well as registration, airfare, and hotel accommodations for the 2008 ISPA Conference and Expo, Nov. 10-13, in Las Vegas. Interested candidates may review terms and conditions for the grant and apply online at www.experienceispa.com after mid-April.
