Global hotel group Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts will open its first beach resort in China, following the signing of an agreement with China Resources Shimei Bay Tourism Development (Hainan) Limited to manage a 300-room, deluxe five star property on Hainan Island. Hainan Island is Asia's fastest growing beach destination and Shimei Bay, on the south coast, is home to its most spectacular white sand beach stretching over five kilometres. Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach & Spa Resort is currently in the final stage of planning and is due to open at the end of 2007.
According to Michael Sagild, Le Meridien Hotels and Resort's Asia Pacific Regional Managing Director: "Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach & Spa Resort will set the new benchmark for five star resort hotels in Hainan.
"We are delighted to be working with China Resources and have every confidence that our experience of operating some of the finest hotels and resorts around the world will help us create a hotel to be proud of."
Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach & Spa Resort will be located approximately 70 minutes from Sanya International airport. Incorporating the finest in luxury accommodation and the very latest in-room technology, Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach & Spa Resort will boast an impressive range of facilities that will embrace the natural environment and emphasise the pristine beach. Under Le Meridien's management, this property will stand alone in the marketplace, with elegant European style and personalised service that is customary in all Meridien hotels worldwide.
