HOSHINOYA, a collection of unique accommodations offering extraordinary experiences with distinct themes, presents the "Blooming Affections" stay at HOSHINOYA Tokyo, a modern Japanese ryokan housed in a towering structure.

Available from March 1st to May 31st, 2025, this program allows guests to express their feelings for loved ones through the beauty of blooming spring flowers. In Japan, spring is a season for conveying feelings of celebration, gratitude, and appreciation to those embarking on new beginnings and milestones in life.

Development Background

Spring is a season of new beginnings, a time for fresh starts, graduations, and new challenges. It is also an opportunity to express feelings of celebration, gratitude, and appreciation to those who have been there through life's journey.

HOSHINOYA Tokyo, drawing inspiration from the Japanese calendar, creates spaces that evoke the subtle nuances of the seasons, offering stays that resonate with the time of year. The beginning of spring is represented by "the blooming of flowers," therefore, we developed the "Blooming Affections" as a way to convey feelings of "thank you" and "congratulations" to loved ones through the blossoms of spring.

Features of the "Blooming Affections" Stay

1. A special space decorated with flowers co-created by the reservation holder, HOSHINOYA Tokyo, and ikebana artist

Prior to the stay, the reservation holder will share their the purpose of the stay and feelings that they want to convey with the HOSHINOYA Tokyo staff and our ikebana artist, who will then propose flower arrangements to adorn the ryokan.

This collaborative effort creates a truly unique space, designed with the guest of honor in mind. HOSHINOYA Tokyo staff will suggest spring flowers that are in full bloom during the stay, based on the traditional Japanese "flower calendar" (*3) and the "Shichijuni-ko," which marks the passage of 72 seasons in five-day intervals.

The ikebana artist will consult with the reservation holder to determine the types, quantity, and arrangement of flowers to best reflect their desired experience, ensuring a personalized and meaningful experience for all.

2. "HOSHINOYA Tokyo Spa Treatment" and "Komachi-beni Rogue Experience" using safflower, symbolizing "special one"

Komachi-beni Rogue experience activity

Indulge in a luxurious and relaxing experience with safflower, a flower whose language conveys the meaning of "special one".

The spa treatment incorporates herbal balls (*4) wrapped in safflower-dyed tenugui towels. These warm and gently massage tense muscles, relieving both physical and mental stress, and guiding guests towards ultimate relaxation. Following the treatment, guests can enjoy a cup of safflower tea as an after-drink, with its subtle sweetness and elegant aroma further enhancing the sense of tranquility.

The experience concludes with the "Komachi-beni Rogue experience," where guests can try applying traditional Japanese lipstick made from safflower. Known for its iridescent sheen, "Komachi-beni" was a luxury item coveted by women in the Edo period. The crimson color also symbolizes warding off evil and wishing for happiness, and there is a long-standing tradition of gifting beni on important life occasions.

This unique experience allows guests to connect with such anticipation and meaning through the allure of "Komachi-beni" that captivated women in the Edo period.

This activity allows guests to reflect on the messages conveyed through each flower as they carefully select and arrange them in a paulownia wood box.
