The new phase in the life of this great European resort will emerge - a destination like no other for the next century ahead…
The flagship hotel in the prestigious Oetker Collection, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, is set to captivate the hearts of travellers once again as one of Germany’s most historic hotel reopens its doors in the second quarter of 2025 in the heart of the historic spa town of Baden-Baden, following an extensive 18-month renovation project.
For over 150 years, Brenners, as the grand hotel is affectionately known to its long-standing guests, has been a true icon of European grand hospitality and its relaunch marks a new era for the hotel, with a harmonious fusion of past, present, and future, complementing the hotel’s legendary spa and medical services.
The transformation aims to create an exceptional standard of comfort and amenities, ensuring that the hotel continues to meet the evolving needs of its guests while preserving its rich heritage and Beaux-Arts architectural style.
Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future
Since its opening in 1872, these values have shaped the soul of the hotel, its staff, and the memories of its guests, from hosting royalty and statesmen, to dignitaries from around the globe.
The transformation has been led by Frankfurt-based interior design team, MM Design, which is overseen by Countess Bergit Douglas, the daughter of Rudolf-August Oetker. The hotel holds a special place in her heart having personally overseen the modernisation of the hotel, including the design of the new restaurants, Fritz & Felix restaurant and Restaurant Wintergarden, as well as the renovation of Villa Stéphanie in 2015. Her passion, sense of style, and commitment to quality are evident in every aspect of the hotel's design. The Countess was also responsible for curating the new accommodations at sister property, Hotel du Cap-EdenRoc.
In total, 79 rooms and suites have been redesigned with 27 unique design concepts, which are timelessly elegant while complemented by modern touches. All the interior fabrics have been carefully hand-selected by Countess Douglas, in keeping with the original and historic design of the building.
Historical elements, such as the traditional staircases, original doors, and distinctive window frames, have been beautifully preserved and the introduction of design and sustainability initiatives seamlessly integrate into the property, creating a space that is as forward-thinking as it is classic.
For the first time in the hotel’s history, the original 19th century hidden brickwork on the east side of the main building has been uncovered, offering a rare glimpse into the architectural roots of the storied landmark. Historic wooden beams from the 19th century were retained and reinforced with steel structures to preserve the original architecture, which has been sourced locally from sustainable forestry in the Black Forest.
Brenners - the gateway to the Black Forest
Brenners is the ultimate playground for guests to explore its unrivalled location at the gateway to the Black Forest, surrounded by nature on the doorstep of the Lichtentaler Allee.
Only two hours by train from Paris to nearby Strasbourg, the historic hotel has become a destination of relaxation, culinary pleasure and sophisticated entertainment, with Baden-Baden also home to Germany’s oldest and ornate casino in the style of French Royal castles.
The 10,062 hectares of gently hilly Black Forest National Park and varied countryside landscape is home to 10,000 animal species; 1,060km of hiking trails, including vineyards with their own wine trails; 630km of cycling tours; and 10 lakes. Guests can even be taken out in one of the ‘Brenners Fleet’ – a VW Samba ‘Oskar’ or a VW Beetle ‘Herbie’ to discover the picturesque Black Forest in style.
Henning Matthiesen, Managing Director at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, commented: “Following an extensive 18-month project, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa has been completely transformed. The reopening marks an exciting new era for the hotel, as the first and original property from the Oetker Collection, which truly honours and preserves the hotel’s past and its 19th century charm, as well as embracing the needs of the modern traveller and the next generation. Set in the heart of the Black Forest, Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa is a destination like no other and will remain a true icon of European grand hospitality and a symbol of exemplary service.”
