The initiative is part of the diversification strategy of the Argentinean company Mirgor and its commitment to the expansion of the productive matrix of Tierra del Fuego, and furthermore, it is aligned with the strategic commitment of Meliá Hotels International to promote the most qualitative and sustainable tourism in the best destinations of the country.

With the signing of this new agreement, Meliá Hotels International, the most sustainable hotel company in Europe according to Standard & Poor's Global, will contribute its extensive management experience and the added value of its renowned Gran Meliá luxury brand to the project being developed by Grupo Mirgor, which will subsequently be managed by the hotel company.

With an estimated investment of more than 50 million dollars, the hotel is expected to begin operations in 2028, making it the southernmost complex operated by the hotel group worldwide.

Among its features, the hotel is expected to have:
  • 200 rooms.
  • Two restaurants, plus a bar and lobby bar.
  • An auditorium with capacity for 800 people.
  • Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a first class spa and a fully equipped gymnasium.
  • Exclusive spaces, such as a gazebo and a winter garden.
The project aims to strengthen the destination's tourism infrastructure and offer, especially through proposals focused on corporate and cultural tourism. It will also allow the creation of approximately 200 new jobs and the development of a network of local suppliers to meet the demand for goods and services required by the hotel.

José Luis Alonso, CEO of Grupo Mirgor, said: "This is a project that was created from a collaborative vision and having Meliá Hotels International involved in it is a fundamental milestone. He added: 'We are committed to expanding the economy of Tierra del Fuego. To this end, we are convinced that it is necessary to be able to integrate capacities and wills that allow us to develop projects framed within this objective".

The Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, added: "Following our expansion plan in the LATAM region, we see great potential for our luxury brands in Argentina, so we are very excited about this alliance with a business group like Mirgor, which has been investing in Tierra del Fuego for more than 40 years. We are very honoured to work together to make this project a reality".

For his part, Gustavo Melella, Governor of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, declared "it is important that the private sector chooses to invest in our province. Undoubtedly, having a hotel of such characteristics will boost tourism", and added “from the Government we accompany those investments that have as their axis the development and growth of Tierra del Fuego" considered the provincial leader, valuing that “this initiative is a sample of what the expansion of the productive matrix allows us and what it entails for our economy".

Melia Hotels International currently has 4 hotels in Argentina, being the Gran Melia Iguazú recognised for the third consecutive year as the best hotel in Argentina by the World Travel Awards.

Finally, it is worth noting that this partnership combines Mirgor's expertise in innovation and project development with Meliá's global leadership in hospitality excellence.
