Casa Bonavita, a historical palazzo which dates to 1740, has been carefully restored over the past five years and will open as a 17 room and suite hotel in early 2026.
Located in the charming village of Attard, in the heart of the historic island of Malta, it is approximately 15 minutes from the island’s fascinating historical sites including the capital Valetta and fortified ancient city of Mdina.
Set in beautiful gardens, full of orange blossom, jasmine and palms, the hotel is a tranquil and restorative retreat from the incredible energy of the island.
Locally grown produce and a kitchen led by a passionate chef means that food will be at the beating heart of the experience. There are plenty of spaces to either socialise or hide away. With swimming pools, an expert spa with sauna, treatment rooms, a cold plunge and a gym the guests should be able to find everything required to make the perfect stay.
Christopher and Suzanne Sharp, co-founders of The Rug Company, bring their design flair and experience to Casa Bonavita as well as a deep love of the island. Suzanne, who grew up in Malta, is a talented interiors and product designer. Christopher, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, originally made the palazzo their home but soon realised it was too special not to share. It is their desire to offer guests an inspiring base from which to discover the island, sharing their vision of its unique charm and cultural significance.
Christopher focused on the gardens, a five-year project, and an opportunity to create a Mediterranean oasis of tranquillity. Suzanne, through her studio, Suzanne Sharps Studio, made the interiors her vision. She ensured that all the interiors and spaces are a sumptuous wealth of both inspiration and beauty.
Each bedroom is unique, with terraces and enormous bathrooms. The communal area is exquisite, Suzanne worked with local and Italian craftsmen to create spaces that are both comfortable and inspiring. Inherited family furniture and paintings, collected over many years, hand painted Sicilian tiles and exquisite hand painted de Gournay wallpaper are layered to extraordinary effect. This has been an opportunity for Suzanne to bring her unique aesthetic to a part of the world which shaped much of her own creativity.
Christopher and Suzanne believe that the spirit of the hotel should be one of generosity, comfort and inspiration.
Casa Bonavita is a new style of hotel that offers a new take on the destination of Malta. Prepare for something very special in early 2026.
