To coincide with a momentous year for the art world – including the 150th anniversary of Impressionism – Dorchester Collection has expanded its Legendary Artists series, with six expert-lead walking tours now on offer in four cities.

visiting its properties in Paris, Rome, London and Milan can follow in the footsteps of renowned creatives that have left a lasting impact on each destination.

Le Meurice, Paris

The Legendary Artist series was first launched at Le Meurice in Paris, with Picasso’s Montmartre, which offers guests the chance to revel in the colourful anecdotes of the artist on his road to riches – starting from the hotel where he held his wedding banquet in 1918.

To coincide with the anniversary of the Impressionism, a new tour, Monet - Revolutionary Brushstrokes, allows guests to explore the beginnings of the Impressionist movement. Monet famously turned the term ‘Impressionist’ from a critic’s slur into an artistic revolution. The tour starts from the hotel’s rooftop, overlooking the Tuileries Garden, and ends at Monet’s immersive water-lily panels at Musée de l’Orangerie.

Alternatively, guests can opt to delve into the history French sculptor François Auguste René Rodin. Rodin - Love and Torment, explores the story of Rodin’s genius and love affair with fellow sculptor Camille Claudel. The secret romance with his student began 140 years ago, and transformed the subject matter that he chose to sculpt.

To celebrate the trio of Legendary Artist trails Le Meurice and Dorchester Collection have also created three new films to offer an introduction to the artists for guests who want to discover more.

Hotel Eden, Rome

In Rome the focus is on late 16th century Italian painter Caravaggio. The famed ‘baroque bad boy’ has seen a surge of interest from a new generation following Netflix series Ripley, in which the artist serves as a guiding light to the murderous conman. Hotel Eden’s Caravaggio – Rebel and Rome follows some of the rebellious artists’ key moments, ending at the location of the fateful tennis match that resulted in his exile from the city.

45 Park Lane, London

In line with 45 Park Lane’s ethos of where art meets modernism, radical 20th century artist Barbara Hepworth is championed in the hotel’s Legendary Artist trail. Hepworth - Rhythm and Form, invites guests to explore London though the lens of one of Britain’s most influential artists. The tour takes guests from the heart of Mayfair to leafy Hampstead, where locations such as the Isokon Building and The Mall Studios acted as hubs for the Hampstead modernists.

Hotel principe Di Savoia, Milan

The latest addition to the Legendary Artists series in Milan showcases Argentine-Italian Lucio Fontana's groundbreaking art.

The founder of Spatialism is known for rejecting his prestigious Brera Arts Academy teachings and slicing his canvases with a flick of his Stanley knife. Fontana - Slashing Space, starts at Hotel Principe di Savoia, where guests visit the rooftop terrace that overlooks the city. The experience also showcases the district of Brera, home to the Arts Academy that Fontana attended, and his studio courtyard, which now houses a contemporary art gallery.

Legendary Artists

All of Dorchester Collection Legendary Artist trails are led by experienced art-historian guides and allows guests to enjoy the beauty of the cities and uncover hidden details tinged with the stories and moments of the artists’ lives, that even locals might overlook. Each itinerary is personalised to guests, so that the trails can cater for intrepid explorers who wish to refine their knowledge, as well as novices who may have visited these cities and want to delve deeper into the artists.

Helen Smith, joint CEO said:We are proud that four Dorchester Collection hotels have embraced the extraordinary stories of six Legendary Artists and that we are able to provide guests to follow in their footsteps. Building from Le Meurice, Paris, the experiences at Hotel Eden, Rome, 45 Park Lane, London, and Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan, all offer unique insights. Each tour can be tailored individually and highlights new perspectives on the history of these destinations. We look forward to being able to continue to build on this series, which has already been so well received and enjoyed by many guests.”
