Awarded by a renowned international jury, the Wine Spectator's Restaurant Awards identify restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections that complement their cuisine and appeal to a broad spectrum of wine lovers.
With a ranking starting from three glass Grand Award to one-glass Award of Excellence, this accolade is a testament to the dedication from the sommeliers to curating a world-class wine selection that enhances the guests' dining experience.
More specifically, the two-glass Best of Award of Excellence is given to restaurants that take their love of wine a step further, for example through continuous training to ensure knowledge stays up to date, and more in-depth sourcing. These lists offer approximately 350 or more carefully curated selections, offering a vast array of wines from top producers, showing a wide breadth of varying regions and vintage depth.
Jean Claude Wietzel, Vice President, General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris comments, “We are particularly honoured to have been recognized by the famous Wine Spectator for the excellence of our wine lists. This is thanks to the hard work of our talented team of 15 sommeliers, male and female, led by award-wining Eric Beaumard at our 3 Michelin-star restaurant Le Cinq, and Francesco Cosci, awarded Best Sommelier of Italy, at Le George restaurant. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and passion for wine, providing an unparalleled experience to our Hotel’s guests, from amateurs to wine connoisseurs alike.”
Internationally renowned for being a true culinary destination with its three Michelin-starred restaurants for a total of six stars - a record in Europe - Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris is also widely recognized for its wine program.
Despite their diverse backgrounds, Eric Beaumard and Francesco Cosci share a deep commitment to the Hotel’s philosophy of celebrating the diversity of terroirs. Both made the decision to focus on showcasing family-run wineries and estates, particularly those committed to sustainable practices.
The sommeliers take to heart building strong relationships with producers – a principle that comes alive by regular vineyard visits and shedding a light on the stories behind the men and women who craft the wines being selected and then served.
The wine cellar, home to nearly 50,000 bottles, boasts one of the finest collections in the world. It features a remarkable array of fine French vintages alongside the most extensive selection of Italian wines in France, creating a unique and diverse collection.
Rich in vintage treasures, including a Madeira from 1795, the cellar boasts around 2,200 French and international wines, stored in optimal conditions.
This rare collection offers a journey through the world's premier wine-growing regions, enriching the gastronomic experience at the Hotel’s three Michelin-starred restaurants, Le Cinq, L’Orangerie, and Le George.
