Coast Hotels & Resorts today announced it has been selected to manage a new 20-storey, 220-room full-service hotel in downtown Vancouver, which is being constructed by its parent company Okabe North America Inc., a subsidiary of Japan's Okabe Co., Ltd.
The new hotel will be located at 1180 West Hastings St., approximately two blocks south of Vancouver's expanded convention centre and within walking distance from the city's business district and cruise ship terminal. Guests will also enjoy close proximity to Vancouver's top tourist attractions such as Stanley Park, Gastown, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and Robson Street's popular shopping district.
Construction of the new hotel is scheduled to get underway later this month. The property will be branded the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.
"The Coast Coal Harbour Hotel will become our flagship property," said Graeme Barrit, President of Coast Hotels & Resorts. "Coast's ability to provide spacious rooms, top quality amenities, modern conference and banquet facilities and unparalleled personal service from this desirable location in the heart of the city will be a big draw for business and leisure travellers. Vancouver is an important holiday gateway for the entire Pacific Northwest and this new hotel will allow us to more effectively market our growing network of properties in popular tourist destinations and to capture a larger share of the tourism market."
Vancouver's Coast Coal Harbour Hotel will be a four-star, full service hotel offering modern conveniences at a moderate price point. The hotel will offer a range of accommodation for business and leisure travellers from luxury premium suites on the 20th floor offering spectacular views of the North Shore mountains to view suites with king beds and balconies and comfort rooms with either twin queen or twin double beds. All rooms will be fully equipped with the latest technology such as wireless high speed Internet access and plug and play, a one-stop connectivity solution for multiple electronic gadgetry such as PDAs, cell phones, mp3 players and laptops as well as flat panel televisions.
The hotel's main vehicular entry point off West Hastings Street will be highlighted by an expansive backlit green, blue and yellow glass ceiling. The backlit coloured glass will extend down a two-storey wall between the two lobby entrances creating a central focus. Inside the hotel, a mix of marble finishes and stone floors accented by colored glass will adorn the lobby creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The Coast Coal Harbour Hotel will feature an 8,000 square foot ballroom and conference facility on the third and fourth floors, which will include 20-foot-high north-facing windows accented by coloured glass. Natural light streaming through the multi-storey windows will create a bright, airy environment during the day and help brighten West Hastings Street in the evening. The hotel will also include private boardrooms, a full service business centre, a fully equipped gym, locker room and a landscaped podium roof deck with an outdoor lap pool and hot tub.
A new 100-seat restaurant specializing in west coast cuisine will grace the West Pender Street side of the building along with a continuous glass and steel sidewalk canopy. Four levels of underground parking will also be provided.
Coast Hotels & Resorts has been aggressively adding new properties to its portfolio in western Canada. In the last year, Coast Hotel & Resorts added 749 rooms to the chain's inventory increasing its Canadian room count by 28 per cent. The hotel chain recently opened hotels in Sun Peaks Resort and Osoyoos, BC, Yellowknife, NWT and Medicine Hat, Jasper, and Edmonton, Alberta.
