Ultra-premium cruise brand Celebrity Cruises has arrived in Hong Kong for the first time with the maiden call of Celebrity Millennium today. The 91,000-gross registered ton ship has arrived from Singapore on 14-night cruise which is also part of her maiden Asian season, homeporting in Hong Kong and Singapore.

An official ceremony was held onboard the ship to welcome her arrival, with plaque exchanges between Captain Zisis S Taramas of Celebrity Millennium and several local government officials including Mr Philip Yung, Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board and business partners. Mr Joseph Lam, Celebrity Cruises’ Hong Kong representative said, “Celebrity Cruises has long been an established brand amongst Hong Kong cruisers for her distinct ‘Modern Luxury’ experience. This season, we are pleased to base Celebrity Millennium in Hong Kong and bring its award-winning, luxurious cruises to more of Celebrity’s fans here. Celebrity’s arrival today also marks the expansion of our company’s presence in Asia together with our two other brands Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises, allowing us to cater to a wider spectrum of customers.”

Commissioner Yung said, “Celebrity Millennium is the first cruise ship deployed by Celebrity Cruises to Asia. Her arrival signifies the growth of the high-end cruise market in the region. With the completion of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in mid-2013, the berthing capacity for cruise ships will be greatly enhanced. We look forward to*welcoming more ships of Celebrity Cruises to Hong Kong in the years to come.”

Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director of the HKTB, said, “The HKTB welcomes the maiden call of Celebrity Millennium and we look forward to its return in the near future. With our new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal expected to commence operation in mid-2013, we are stepping up our promotion of cruise tourism and working closely with our cruise industry partners, with a view to encouraging more cruise companies to include Hong Kong as a “must-visit” stop in their itineraries and reinforcing our city’s position as the cruise hub in Asia.’

The 2,158-guest Celebrity Millennium which was launched in 2000, underwent a major renovation earlier this year and now features the renowned Solstice Class features, including the spa-inspired AquaClass staterooms, Blu the ‘spa’ restaurant, ‘uniquely unordinary’ Qsine restaurant, stylish creperie Bistro on Five and Cellar Masters with a bold collection of wines from around the world. Celebrity’s Millennium Class ships ranked among the top 10 lines in the mid-size ship category in the 2012 Condé Nast Traveler’s annual “Best in the World” readers’ poll.

For her maiden Asian season from now till next April, Celebrity Millennium will visit nine countries new to the brand, including Vietnam, Thailand and China, among others. She will feature a series of 14-night one-way cruises between Hong Kong and Singapore, with overnight stays in ports like Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Halong Bay and Hong Kong. The season also will include two 14-night roundtrip sailings from Singapore with overnight stays in Bali in January 2013.
