Nashville-based Alex S. Palmer & Company announced today it is bringing InterContinental Hotels & Resorts to Nashville, marking the first time a truly international luxury hotel brand comes to Tennessee (US).

InterContinental Nashville will join the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts portfolio, the luxury brand in the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) family of hotels. The property will be a component of the West End Summit, a two-tower hotel, residential and office complex offering high-end retail and restaurant elements. Groundbreaking for West End Summit, to be built by Alex S. Palmer & Company, is set for late summer 2006 with an estimated completion date of late 2008.

Alex S. Palmer, president of Alex S. Palmer & Company, said the Nashville firm has entered into an agreement with an affiliate of IHG for the management of the hotel for a 20-year term.

“This agreement follows a comprehensive search for a premium hotel that is a perfect fit for West End Summit,” Palmer said. “We are extremely proud to bring this luxury hotel brand to our city and state, and look forward to the prestige it adds to our Class A office space and retail establishments in the Summit.”

The West End Summit will encompass the entire city block of 1600 West End. The 900,000-square-foot, mixed-use development will include a premier office complex, residential condominiums and the InterContinental Nashville. Amenities will include several signature restaurants, retail shops, full-service health and fitness center, more than 2,000 on-site parking spaces and 24-hour concierge.

InterContinental Nashville will feature approximately 285 guest rooms, world-class spa and health club, multiple dining options and lounge. It will contain nearly 18,000 square feet of meeting and function space including a 10,750-square-foot grand ballroom.

“With IHG’s focus on expanding the brand in the U.S., the InterContinental Nashville is a tremendous and welcome addition to our portfolio of hotels. The InterContinental brand is ideal for this strong business and entertainment market,” said Kirk Kinsell, SVP and chief development officer, IHG, The Americas. “The economic growth of the city, specifically the West End Corridor, is exceptional and is only going to become stronger in the future. Additionally, the established business environment and the Fortune 500 companies that call West End home are particularly impressive.”

There are 16 InterContinental hotels in the United States. The InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta is the closest to Nashville.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts continues to grow its presence in the Americas region. The InterContinental Merida in Mexico and the InterContinental Playa Bonita Resort & Spa in Panama joined the portfolio in late 2005 and was quickly followed by the opening of the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza in January 2006 and the InterContinental Harbor Court Baltimore this Spring. Currently under construction are the InterContinental Boston, scheduled to open in Fall 2006 and the InterContinental San Francisco, scheduled to open in late 2007. Plans are also underway for the InterContinental Sacramento scheduled to open in mid-2008 and the InterContinental Resort & Residences Orlando scheduled to open in early 2009.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts was the first truly international hotel brand in the world, and quickly became the symbol of glamour, sophistication and success that years later, continue to define global travel. The brand is committed to providing its guests with memorable and unique experiences that enrich their lives and broaden their outlook. InterContinental offers services and amenities specifically designed for the international business traveler, while maintaining the delicate balance of luxury expectations with authentic local experiences that enhance the leisure stay as well.
