Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., (NYSE: HOT) announces the opening of The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa on the island of Fiji. Formerly the Sheraton Royal Denarau Resort, which opened in 1974, the resort has undergone a $15 million renovation to its 271 guestrooms, restaurants, a two-tiered beachfront pool and state-of-the-art spa. Heavenly Spa by Westin at The Westin Denarau is the largest and most luxurious spa in Fiji and is a member of the Starwood Spa Collection. While transforming and enhancing the resort to a Westin, the team of architects and designers carefully maintained the original style and authenticity the resort is famous for. The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa is part of a portfolio of hotels that is expected to be sold to Host Marriott Corporation later this month and will continue to be managed by Starwood under its Westin brand.

The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa is designed to reflect Fiji's rich Melanesian culture and local tropical island style with priceless local ancestral carvings, artifacts and lush tropical gardens filled with exotic flowers and native birds. The resort is spread over 30 acres of prime beachfront land on Denarau Island and connected to the mainland of Fiji by a causeway. It is only 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport and three minutes from Port Denarau Marina and situated next to the Sheraton Fiji Resort and the Sheraton Denarau Villas. Guests have full access to all the facilities at the adjacent Sheraton resorts including five restaurants, three bars and lounges and three swimming pools. The world-renowned Denarau Golf & Racquet Club is a leisurely stroll away offering an 18-hole championship golf course and 10 tennis courts.

The resort's spacious guestrooms and suites are superbly furnished in sensitive harmony with the South Pacific setting, reflecting the charm and simplicity of traditional Fijian crafts and culture. Finishes include rich, warm Fijian Golden Vesi timbers and palm wood blend with plush textiles and local arts to enhance the island mood of understated luxury. Nestled amidst a lush meditation garden with tropical lily lagoons surrounding the garden, the resort's newly renovated Heavenly Spa by Westin features eight Fijian-style treatment bures (Fijian thatched roof huts) and two suites, a Vichy shower treatment room, a hydrotherapy room, a wet-edge lap pool, Jacuzzi and a WestinWORKOUT(R) Powered by Reebok fitness center with state of the art fitness equipment. A comprehensive range of body, facial and wrap treatments using Europe's Thalgo as well as Fijian traditional products are offered. The renovation of The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa features a full service business center and has added two meeting rooms to its existing meeting facilities. The Westin's existing ballroom features native design inspiring every event with the local feel. Together with the nearby Sheraton Fiji Resort, it provides the most comprehensive indoor and outdoor conference, meeting and incentive facilities with seating capacity for up to 1,100.
