Molino Stucky Hilton Venice: Venice’s Newest Landmark

Work on restructuring the Molino Stucky is reaching its final stages and anticipation and excitement is growing in the city as the proposed opening date of Molino Stucky Hilton Venice, in Spring 2007, moves closer.

The exceptional rate at which work has advanced is a tribute to the owning company Acqua Pia Antica Marcia who have overseen this ambitious project which will form the object of an 18 year management contract with Hilton.

This complex architectural undertaking involved the renovation of the Molino Stucky or Stucky flourmills that had previously remained in a state of abandon for more than 50 years. The project, spanning over three years, has proved to be one of the most important urban renovation projects in Europe with painstaking efforts made to conserve the unique surroundings and structure of one of the largest and most unique landmarks on the Venice waterfront.

Nothing had ever been attempted on this scale in Venice up to now and the project is made more remarkable by the complexity and logistics of transporting all materials to the site by water. Initial stages of building work were set back by a fire which resulted in a complete section of the walls of the building being rebuilt exactly as they had appeared previously.

Covering an area of 31,000 sq. m., the hotel has been created without altering the facade or the industrial structure of the original mill. The mill was Venice's first gothic revival building which included unique features so that it would blend harmoniously into the city's dominant architectural style. This new renovation programme has brought back to life the brainchild of two extraordinarily intuitive 19th century Venetians: the German-born architect, Ernst Wullekopf and the Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Stucky - a visionary Merchant of Venice - returning the site to its former glory and reviving it as Venice's newest landmark.

Molino Stucky Hilton Venice is located on the Giudecca a gondola shaped group of islands just five minutes to the south of Piazza San Marco by boat. Easy access from the mainland, the airport and the train station as well as quick and convenient access via footbridge and boat to all major tourist attractions - not to mention previously unseen views of Venice - underline the importance of the hotel as a new top tier luxury property in one the World's main tourist destinations.

This splendid new hotel is set to become one of Venice's most exclusive hotels. State of the art congress facilities including Venice's largest hotel congress hall as well as a wide selection of room types and suites - all meeting the exacting standards of the Hilton brand - mean that it should establish itself as Venice's leading conference and leisure hotel proving an invaluable addition to the city's existing portfolio of tourism facilities.

Hotel facilities include:

380 luxuriously appointed guest rooms
84 Executive rooms
46 suites
Venice's largest conference hall hosting up to 1000 participants
5 Hilton Meeting Rooms
5 restaurants and bars including the Skyline Bar overlooking the city
A roof top outdoor swimming pool
A 600m² spa facility

Pierre Dorrell Regional Director of Marketing for the Mediterranean commented: "As we get closer to completion of this truly unique architectural project, the level of expectation associated with the introduction of a new five star hotel in the heart of Venice grows and grows. We are proud and excited that the Hilton flag will shortly be flying over the hotel and are confident that the hotel will become an integral part of the touristic landscape in Venice building on a long tradition of hospitality"
