InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is pleased to announce that a corner stone ceremony has taken place today for its new Crowne Plaza Castle Prague hotel.
The hotel is set to open at the end of 2006 and will be operated by Key Hotels Group of Prague, a current franchisee of IHG, which has been successfully operating the Express by Holiday Inn hotel in Prague since June 2005.
The Crowne Plaza Castle Prague hotel offers a unique guest experience thanks to its setting on the site of the famous Strahov monastery overlooking the city and its proximity to Prague castle and other city sights including Karls Bridge. Reflecting the history of its location ancient building elements will be renovated and integrated with the new construction.
The hotel aims to attract leisure guests looking for a more relaxed resort style hotel in the city as well as business travellers and local embassies looking for high tech services coupled with luxury surroundings.
There will be 138 guestrooms including 12 suites, a restaurant, bar and library with open fireplace, a fitness club including sauna and steam baths, and an extensive conference centre to cater for up to 200. In addition the hotel will have tennis courts, private parking, boutiques and limousine and concierge service.
For bigger conferences, weddings or events the hotel will be able to arrange the use of reception and conference rooms in the monastery itself, rooms such as the monastery's refectory and library date back hundreds of years. On the premises of the monastery there are also a number of famous restaurants allowing the hotel to provide a diversity of offerings to its guests.
Robin Wicks, chief operating officer Europe commented:

This hotel’s location, design, and facilities blend the history of the city with the latest in technology and luxury to deliver a unique guest experience."
