Mr. John Q. Hammons today announced his plans to break ground on the new four-story, 150-suite Residence Inn by Marriott® Kansas City International Airport in Kansas City, Mo. Slated to open in fall 2006, the hotel will be owned by Mr. Hammons and will be managed by Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, LLC, the nation’s leading independent builder, developer, owner and manager of upscale, full-service hotels, resorts and suites. Strategically located east of Interstate 29 and north of Highway 152 just north of the Tiffany Springs exit, the hotel will be 1.5 miles from the Kansas City International Airport. The new Residence Inn will be the 11th hotel managed by John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts in Missouri. The company also owns and operates two additional hotels in Kansas City, Mo. – the Embassy Suites Kansas City International Airport and the Homewood Suites Kansas City International Airport. "Over the last 10 years, I have been pleased with how strong the Kansas City market has performed," said Mr. John Q. Hammons, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, LLC. "I want to continue to offer first-class accommodations and flexible meeting space that will attract new business opportunities and contribute to the growth of the community. The Residence Inn by Marriott Kansas City International Airport expands on the success of my other properties in the area, and I am confident that it will exceed everyone’s expectations." Area Information Situated near the geographic and populations centers of the nation, Kansas City is located in the "Heart of America." The metro area straddles the Missouri-Kansas state line and includes more than 136 cities and 11 counties. Kansas City is the hometown headquarters of Hallmark Cards, U.S. Sprint, Russell Stover Candies, H&R Block and numerous other businesses. Both Harley Davidson and Ford have major plants in the city, ranking Kansas City as one of the top vehicle assembly cities in the nation. Kansas City is perhaps best known for its steaks, barbecue and jazz. With more than 60 barbecue restaurants and numerous cook-off competitions, it is arguably one of the nation's barbecue capitals. Kansas City became a hotbed of jazz shortly after World War I in the now-famous area around 18th and Vine. Jazz is undergoing a renaissance there, a factor in the new Kansas City Jazz Museum, a complex that also includes a new Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
