Carlson Companies today announced that Bill Van Brunt, who has been Carlson’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel since 2000, has been promoted to Executive Vice President.
“Bill has proven his abilities and distinguished himself as an outstanding lawyer and General Counsel,” said Carlson Chair and Chief Executive Officer Marilyn Carlson Nelson. “His promotion reflects our appreciation for the wisdom, experience and breadth he brings to our global executive leadership team.”
Van Brunt came to Carlson with a strong and varied portfolio. A 17-year General Mills veteran, he was a vice president responsible for the company’s legal matters regarding antitrust, intellectual property, international and a variety of other areas including Food and Drug Administration and mergers and acquisitions. At Carlson, he leads all corporate and business unit legal functions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, intellectual property, anti-trust and general business law. He also retains his role as General Counsel and continues to serve on Carlson’s Executive Committee.
The veteran attorney has worked for Hershey Foods Corporation and was associated with the firms of McNees, Wallace and Nurick, in Harrisburg, Pa., and Kenway and Jenny in Boston.
Van Brunt is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and received a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Aerospace Engineering. He received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, cum laude, later earning an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School, specializing in trade regulation.
Prior to attending law school, Van Brunt was a senior scientist and missile engineer in the aerospace industry.
Van Brunt’s wife, Gail, is account manager, Prepaid Card Services, at Carlson Marketing Worldwide. She has been with the company for 20 years.
